Lol. A vdsl bourne virus. "Have you turned it off on and on again?" "Is it plugged in?" Or a broadband help desk classic: "Please switch off the router for 30 seconds..."

Chrizvi: This is common problem if you are infected of a virus or malware. Have you tried using another machine ? Best to try your friends machine as I suspect you home machines are all infected.

This is a long thread so I will forgive you for not knowing that I have rebooted, tried different machines, different browsers, rebooted router, reset router to factory defaults, rebooted the switch, even left the building. So, unless all devices have the same virus, including macbook, ipads, pcs etc then I am going to stick my neck out and say I am not infected.

Thanks tr3v for the proxy site. It works better as I can bookmark it together with the website I want to visit regularly.

I have no problem accessing microsoftvirtualacademy.com via my VDSL connection. Can you access DNjournal.com from your end? So the problem can even be tied to individual user? Well, at least I have a workaround now.

I have found a work-around. I have struggled for that long with more than one issue with my VDSL connection that I lost my way. The bottom line is that I suspect it is a Windows 8.1 and Tecnicolor router problem combined. Changing my DNS settings on my Windows 8.1 machine to Google's (8.8.8.8 and 4.4.4.4 sec) makes it fly! This also explains why proxy servers work.

I originally stated that I was having the problem on other non Windows 8.1 devices, but this was a red herring as it was related to a previous problem.

I'm still running Windows 7. Do you think the DNS issue is valid here too?

No, this is specific to Windows 8.1 (there was no problem with Windows 8 or earlier)

I've seen your emails but haven't responded (sorry been insanely busy these last two weeks).

My wife is running Windows 8.1 at home and I have a Cisco router and haven't noticed any issues. Will try putting in the TG582N and Pace 5542V I have here too this weekend if I find time (unlikely :( )... And see if I have the same problem.

I had EXACTLY the same problems as you.  VDSL installed in early November, constant time outs of any new pages.  Any pages I had previously visited (even if the pages had been updates ie news websites) fine to load.  But any new link I would have to refresh several times to get to load.  I too have Win8.1

I tried you work around of using Googles DNS and it worked perfectly.  My internet is absolutely flying now.  Even pages that would previously load fine are loading even faster it seems.

Thanks so much in helping me to not pull ALL my hair out lol!

I have had VDSL for a couple of months now, so far no obvious issues that I recall, but when I tried www.dnjournal.com it doesn't work either.

ran nslookup and got this:
Server:        127.0.0.1
Address:    127.0.0.1#53

Name:    dnjournal.com
Address: 198.18.1.66

Looking it up online I got 208.99.113.125 but that takes me to a default Apache page.

The site does work through Megaproxy, though.

127.0.0.1 is the loopback address - have you got an entry for that domain in your hosts file?

I am the original poster on the issue on www.dnjournal.com. Where can I find info on how to include this domain name in my hosts file? Where is the file located on Windows 7? Thanks. I'm still waiting for an answer to this frustrating issue?

I doubt it. I had never heard of dnjournal before this thread and I have never touched my hosts file in Linux either. (I do use Spybot to blacklist sites in Windows hosts file, though)
