ArranH: I'm now getting about 40-50kBps, about, much less than the usual 2MB, but at least its better than the 0kB I was getting.

Yeah, I found on Monday night when the problem first appeared for me, I was able to get good speeds on Tuesday morning throughout the day (bout 3-5mb down constantly) but come the afternoon it starts to crap out, slowing down to an absolute crawl by around 7.30pm.

I'm gonna give it a few days, I really can't see the helpdesk slaves being helpful at all - Telecom really need to have a 'known issues' register or something.

Thanks for that, can the changes occur during the weekend as well?

A plan change can be done anytime in the month. If you applied online by late afternoon, the process will run same day, and the actual change will occur that night in the wee hours. Our plan change elves commence work about 1am.........

But what within the Tompson router tells me that interleving is actually turned off?

No, it doe not appear to. You can PM me or email us via Contact Us on the Telecom website, we can see your modem from our end, it will show us as Interleaved or Fst

Anyone else seeing really poor international traffic tonight?

Both are the same file, the difference is the top one is coming from the States, the bottom one is being mirrored from one of our servers (in Auckland) since I'm getting better international performance from it.

Big Time! (no pun intended)

Ventrilo cuts in and out like it used to. Browsing is slow, On-Demand is un-usable and pings to servers in australia are higher than usual. (55-60 rather than 35-40)

wow how do you get such fast download speeds with just the normal browser download? i need to use IDM just to get anything decent. my downloads in firefox are always below 100kb/s, national and international traffic

ive been following this thread constantly and have seen the ups and downs on here. ive noticed crap pings for ventrillo as well (seems to work fairly well between 2am and 3pm). once the kids start coming home from school, that seems to be when all hell breaks lose and everything starts getting high pings etc.

i still cant play on pogo.com which is a java based gaming site kinda like yahoo games (which i have no problems playing even though its java based too). for now i can live with it but getting up very early in the morning to chat/play with friends and family overseas is taking its toll. a friend of mine is on the pro plan and doesnt have any trouble playing on that site during the day so it looks like shaping of the big time plan is affecting it.

Ragnor: I don't think the Thomson's stats page shows whether the connection is interleaved or not.

You can fairly easily tell if interleaving is off by looking at a tracert to www.telecom.co.nz, the first hop after your modem should be <30ms.

u are correct indeed, mine doesnt show that state.

Pinging telecom.co.nz [146.171.18.242] with 32 bytes

Reply from 146.171.18.242: bytes=32 time=13ms TTL=121
Reply from 146.171.18.242: bytes=32 time=11ms TTL=121

if u happen to see 50-70+ pings that means you do not have interleaving off. ive had about 50+ pings before the phone call was made %)

It's been like that for as long as I've been on big time.

Speed increased to about 1MBps last night for a short while (just had a patch to download). This morning I queued Ubuntu as a test and getting about 160kBps

Calling Telecom now for the first of my daily complaints.

Edit ---------------------------

According to the person I got today there has been a problem with international connectivity for the past 4 days, which would explain the download issue that nate is having, as the slow speeds that the newsgroup people are. Supposedly its still being looked into.

We run dedicated servers in a data-centre, to get that speed I first downloaded the file to one of our dev servers (it has stacks of dedicated bandwidth) and then downloaded it to my home from the server.  Telecom has no issues with national traffic hence why it is so fast.

Mine's been pretty good but lately it's pretty bad.

To add insult to injury, below is downloading the same file, internationally, through my T-stick (I'm currently in a cafe in Parnell):

Still a horrible ping in Ventrilo.

I can deal with it though. I just hope the traffic management for VoIP gets better :)

Indeed.

I pretty much just gave up trying to talk with a 16000 ping. lol
I hope it gets fixed soon though!  I liked those few days were I could log in and chat hassle free.

Telecom!  All hands on deck! Laughing

Well I put the change plan order through at 2am yesterday (19th) hoping the net would change overnight and it hasn't, usage meter still says bigtime, and ip is still within the bigtime range, is there anything that I should be doing to help the change?

I just checked the email we received about it, and it says "two working days", whereas the website says 24 hours. What the hell?
