Geesh, this is bad. Can't even access Gmail, or at least have to switch to low bandwith version. Hell, even downloading FF add-on updates (just a couple of hundy kb's) takes 4-5 minutes. God help me if I wanted to update to 3.6.2. I hope they sort out their issues soon - my net connection is effectively nothing now. :( I realise they shape/meddle with this plan but even so, faster than dial-up should be acheivable, yeah?

I thoght the Global Gateway was part of something bigger and Telecom just used it.

I stand corrected. Why did they not just tell us this earlier here?

So if they admit there is a fault with Global Gateway, why is this not listed on their network status page?

Exactly, and people understand that faults can occur, just as long as we know they are and that its being worked on.

This is the Telecom of old showing its head again. I was hoping it was gone for good.

And transfers are slow again this morning :(

I was having no issues last night when i noticed alot of people reporting problems however waking up this morning download speeds from anywhere are painfully slow where as last night i was having no problems, this could either be them making a change to the shaping rules or to do with the international problem not quite sure

Ventrilo seems to be semi-usable. Ping spikes between 250 and 700. Voice dosn't lag as much though, so I am happy for now.

If the global gateway isn't fixed yet, then I can't wait to see what it is like after.

Apologies I've delayed posting on this matter, I haven't been in the office at all this week.

Yes, there is an issue affecting some international traffic, this problem would be slight degradation for those not on Big Time traversing a certain 'side' of the network, the problem would be worse for those on Big Time, the issue is a certain type of traffic that has caused a significant buffer to occur and cause memory/cpu issues in a device. The reason it is taking a while to fix is it is only present during peak traffic. Changes are being made and some traffic has been 'shifted' to try and alleviate it but, we only know whether its worked or not until peak time. I'm confident by proxy that a change made today should see better performance during peak tonight.

Feel free to pm me should you think there is something specific I should know about the issues you are having and I will do my best to get back to you.

If it is only present during peak times then whats been killing our connections during off peak times? Or are you saying that you are massaging some traffic types at all times so try and fix the problems during peak times (and can only tell if its working at peak times)?

The traffic management for Big Time is present from 9am-2am. I would say the issue we're seeing at the moment starts ramping up (for everyone on that side of the network) anywhere between 5-7pm and starts to lessen between 10pm-11:30pm. In saying that, the nature of this particular problem could be causing issue for Big Time outside of the 9-2 bracket, I'd have to check back with the network lads, which I will do tomorrow.

Awesome news Doozy glad to see some feedback on what the issue is.

and ArranH i agree with you to a degree, although i am not to the point of having major problems i have noticed it to be much slower on off-peak than during peak times

Certainly, during the morning speeds appear good but at some point during the day the connection turns to crap. I can only come home and check and see that I've had a whole bunch of connection time outs on certain downloads. By the time I come home the connection is all over the place (however, doesn't seem to go above 1mb - I've typically enjoyed around 5mb down until 2 weeks ago). This degrades to a point (usually around 7.30-8pm where I'm lucky to get 256kb-512kb down. Packet loss at present is all over the place as well which says to me that the problem is still present.

Why so little comms? I think thats what irks me so much about the situation.

I agree, the comms have been ... less than what I would normally hope for in a situation like this, I will definitely be raising that with my little group of broadband cronies to make sure its addressed and resolved.

It seems to be the opposite for me, from 9am-3pm downloads a painfully slow and then from 3pm until sometime im the middle of the night my download speeds are fine, its like the shaping times have been reversed
