I am close friends with a person in the trade, and according to them the interfence is only where vodafone has used "Generic Gear" e.g with a freq of 800mhz to 1000 because that is cheaper than singluar gear what vodafone have used in Large CBD Areas.

So in saying that, yes Telecom's 850 network is interfering with Vodafones network, except Telecom are in the right as they have brought the license to 850 and it is vodafones fault for not locking down the gear to their own network bands.

Doesn't this mean, if I read it correctly, that Vodafone have been using the wrong frequency, one that they don't even have rights to, and now someone else is on that frequency their network isn't working?

How could the Generic Gear perform so badly, do you have any google links?

Sounds like they may have big unfixable 3G build problems. Good luck with the warranty on that "Generic Gear" - perhaps, they should have spent less on the network brand 'Vodafone' and more on the actual hardware brand on the 3G kit instead of using 'Generic' haha funny :)

Regs: LMFAO. voice and text messages taking a week to deliver because of interference! how do *any* calls, txts or messages get through then. sounds like a media beatup to me.

I agree! I couldn't believe it when I saw TV3's news report, it seemed like the report came straight from a Vodafone press release with a tiny 10 sec 'retort' from Dr Reynolds to 'balance' up the article. Pathetic! Just like in th NBR(or similar, I can't remember, it's saturday =p) Voda have been saying 'Telecom are 5 years behind us' when if I recall correctly, true 3G was introduced first of Telecoms CDMA network. Shame.

Court proceedings are open to the public. You're welcome to go and hear the facts as they are presented to the Court.

My understanding is the facts have not yet been presented to the Court, Vodafone have simply issued a statement saying they are commencing proceedings.

Anyone know when and where this case is going to be heard? I prefer my information from as close to the source as possible and a large show of interest would certainly make Voda think twice before pulling any more obvious stunts like this...

Maybe they are just wanting some screen time before they can get results from the potentially additional millions to counter the oh so effective XT ads.

This is perhaps what makes me laugh most about this last ditch effort by Voda....

Lets ignore 1-4 shall we.....seemingly irrelevant.

If they'd wanted to really defend customers they would have

a) provided efficient, local, dependable customer service

b) provided reliable, fast nationwide coverage

c) provided honest answers without avoiding the real issues to multiple questions and concerns I have seen posted here and in various forums and media channels

d) provided real value without having to charge their own customers who are paying them each month without having to resort to tactics such as paying for paper bills (now defunct, yes I know) and paying to receive customer service.

e) anyone??

If this is vodafones attempt at a 'number 6' then they need to try harder

I know for a fact that Telecom and NZComms have been having interference issues between their networks.

Also finding the source of interference is not always as simple as getting out a spectrum analyser and having a look. Co-location of transmitters and crappy joints on antennas can produce different results between identical equipment.

MED have some very competent people, with top end test equipment and until they have done the necessary measurements making statements in support of either company is a waste of time.

Which makes me wonder why Vodafone haven't been in touch with the MED rather than wasting thousands of dollars of their own money pursuing legal action, when the MED would've taken the case themselves if they felt neccessary.

Of course, Vodafone may well have been in touch with the MED on this issue, and I assume they've at least had passing words with each other about it. The timing just seems a little fishy to me.

And as other people have pointed out, Telecoms xt has been transmitting since Christmas, thats well over 4 months, wouldnt you think that if your competiton was causing problems with your network you would have taken it up with them BEFORE they launch, not take a court injunction days out, reminds me of politics,

Work has been ongoing to some time to resolve this issue. The Telecom media release even acknowledges this.

It's so funny how there are only a handful off people on here who are cellular engineers (I'm not one of them) but yet people's bias towards Company X or Company Y they have all suddenly formed opinions as to who is at fault.

Let the evidence and the outcome of the court ruling decide who's wrong.

I haven't noticed any changes in the performance of the Vodafone network lately.

Txts can take hours to arrive, even from Voda users

Calls get dropped

In many locations there is no or poor 3G coverage

Speech quality is often poor.

I will be trialling an XT network prepay from 13 May...

I was a geek before the word was invented!

No they have not been using nother frequency, just their gear is able to recive other frequencys in the range set, and now ofcourse their is more network traffic on 850 It is starting to cause problems, but like said in my first post, Telecom has done nothing wrong they are using the frequency they brought, If anything it should be vodafone in court for using telecoms frequency
