Just skimmed over the comments on Telecoms facebook post for this. Seeing everything from confusion to ignorance and false claims - and even one person calling conspiracy that his internet has got slower just so they can promote VDSL hahaha.

IMO Good on telecom for launching this to the mass market even though things like that are to be expected considering the complexity of the service compared to ADSL.

Same price as my current ADSL plan...tempting...is there any discount or anything if I supply my own modem? Or do I need to take the Telecom-supplied one?

Good question, it's a package deal so comes with a free modem anyway, it's also a rather good one.

Possibly. But chances are that it's only an ADSL Master. You'll need and xDSL Master. The tech will confirm this when the installation is done and the price is the same regardless of what has to be done.

Signed up last night and should be all up and running early next week...

I've had dropout issues for a while now and have long thought a master splitter would solve most of my problems, and maybe a new modem wouldn't hurt. So I look at it as getting both for $99, then also getting (warning: generalisation alert) twice as much data delivered three times as fast for $10 less per month than the Total Home package I was still on. Win. Win. Win. Win.

This may or may not be a silly question but....

If you upgrade to VDSL does it make connecting to servers in the US or UK a lot faster? I ask this as I used to belong to MLBTV but gave it up as it kept on dropping between SD and HD mode due to not enough speed between here and the US.

Thanks in advance for any answers

Potentially, it really depends on where you're connecting to :)

Generally no. The UK is 340+ ms away from us and at that latency the available bandwidth is not the limiting factor.

The US should be a bit better but I'd confidently say that a good ADSL2+ connection would get the same single thread throughput as a good VDSL connection.

Cheers - N

If I order the service online yesterday morning, should I have been contacted by now?

does a master filter allow phone line to be connected to that broadband jack? the jack that gives me broadband also allows a phone line to be connected ... not a master filter is it?

I've spent most of the morning searching Telecom's website and on hold to their call centre... can someone give me a link to sign up to a 12 month VDSL connection with the free season pass to the EPL?

Going through the sign up online only offers a $200 discount on the connection.

The call centre say I have to sign up online to get the free season pass...
