Newbie here...but great call just thre same . That's why I'm dumping Vodafone and porting to Telecom: can't wait for May 13th.

This sure is a fun debate, so here's my 2c on the whole timing of this:
- extract from the Herald story: - He said (Paul Reynolds) the first he heard of Vodafone's problem was on Wednesday - days after Telecom announced the mid-May launch date

- yet a few paragraphs later: Engineers for both companies had been working on the issues for weeks

So imagine Vodafone's dilemma, working away on the issue, with plenty of time to resolve ahead of the June launch. The all of a sudden - Telecom decide they will launch not even half way through May!

So now Vodafones "plenty of time" is now not much time at all.

Anyway, just some alternative perspective to toss in the mix, and of course we still don't know the actual facts behind this all.

Hey Guys,

I think this is going to be very interesting to see how it unfolds...
On Vodas forum the Vodafone response on Monday was - that there is no interference because of NOT having 2100 which we know isnt correct...
Cant wait to start hearing the facts!!! Voda should have just worked with Telecom to fix any problems, sounds very much like a delay tactic...
Especially since the network has been up and running in main destinations since last year (one of my clients build the cell sites for all providers)

Amongst all this speculation, that actually makes a fair bit of sense! Will have to wait and see.. or as JohnR says "watch this space"!

You obviously haven't read any of the press releases or followed any news stories discussing this issue.

To quote Telecom

Telecom’s engineers have already been working with their counterparts at Vodafone, for several weeks now, to resolve these issues and this process has been working well.

I looked that statement and figured (right or wrong) that the engineers have been working on resolving two way interference issues from both networks for some time, its part of the deal of running networks, nothing new here. It seems strange that the MED is not enforcing this some how. I see Paul Reynolds is stated in the article as calling Russell to find a way together of fixing the issues faster, this may have come when Vodafone escalated things beyond the technical networks people?

We will have to wait until the court hearing however even if Telecom is at fault, quite possibly it is, this situation could have been solved the appropriate way by the engineers & the MED rather than in the media with lawyers. Motives need to be checked possibly

Not taking sides here, way too many people jumping to conclusions about Vodafones motive behind the court proceedings. I suspect that 99% of the people making comment here have next to no real hard information/facts about the case.

I just think it is too improbable to believe that Vodafone would take Telecom to court merely as a delaying tactic if there wasn't an actual problem that was, at least in part, Telecoms fault. The courts will very quickly see through a sham court injunction proceeding. Vodafone would be taking a huge risk doing this and the consequences would be too horrendous for Vodafone to even contemplate.

Thats a fair response, i really only question timing as motive, if the issues have been on going, the two networks have had engineers working well together, why escalate it now if an end is going to be insight? In the end no lawyer will fix the problems at either network, the engineers will. Maybe this is best left in theres and the MED's hands?

This certainly explains the timing. Sounds like the techies were happily working on solving the problem, then the Telecom marketing people decide to spring a surprise on everyone by bringing forward the launch date.

Sounds like a classic case of the marketing dept not talking to the tech dept.

I can understand the cynics though - imagine the damage Telecom would incur if they have to delay their launch to fix the problem?

Why delay the launch, the interference will be there with the network live under commercial use or under test. As long as the techs are working to fix it then thats all that should matter.

The w850 network was built be a 3rd party who would have handed it over to Telecom a wee while back. The techs would have confirmed its go for launch, marketing would have gone off that, surely.

Telecom have a lot riding on this, their commercial future for one, launching with out tech approval would be foolish. There is a lot more to this than we all know, the sooner the evidence is put in the public arena the better, clear up the speculation.

I do know that in some parts of the country, it's the same engineers (Downer I think), who look after both Telecom and Vodafone cell sites.

And as other people have pointed out, Telecoms xt has been transmitting since Christmas, thats well over 4 months, wouldnt you think that if your competiton was causing problems with your network you would have taken it up with them BEFORE they launch, not take a court injunction days out, reminds me of politics,

Work has been ongoing to some time to resolve this issue. The Telecom media release even acknowledges this.

It's so funny how there are only a handful off people on here who are cellular engineers (I'm not one of them) but yet people's bias towards Company X or Company Y they have all suddenly formed opinions as to who is at fault.

Let the evidence and the outcome of the court ruling decide who's wrong.

I noticed, having read this thread, that those who are actucally knowledgable in this area (here on Geekzone), have said little on this subject, for whatever reasons...

Some of them, may not be able to speak publicly about it for obvious reasons, as its their place of work etc etc...
But I think many of them, have not bothered to engage in this debate, as they can see many people who have no idea, wofling on, speculating and holding their favorite company's up high and proud, ready to do battle...its silly really.

Time well tell.

downers and transfield hook up to 2meg bearers that carries the data from the cell sites back to vf data centers. but im pretty sure thats all. vf have there own pple that do the rest of the work on the sites,

Anything I suggest or say is my own thoughts and not provided by anyone else unless stated
