joker97: cool ... if i convert my $19 prepay to postpaid that will deduct $10 ...

i wonder if i can set a zero excess usage

On mobile yes.. do it in the mobile portal and set your smartcap to 0. So then when you go over your mobile data cap then everything stops. Also setup usage alerts so you get pings when you get close.

possum888: Does the extra $10 charge for ADSL outside AKL/WLG/CHC apply for the unlimited plan? Quite like the idea of moving up from 150GB at $109 to unlimited for no extra cost.

They should no longer be charging that as it was to combat the Big back Yard where telstraclear was running their fibre network now that UFB is available in most NZ cities there is no reason to still charging this, But they will if you don't challenge them on it make a point of it when asking for service

It honestly took me under 30 seconds from reading your post to having this URL.

Landline pricing is still cheaper in those 3 cities that the rest of NZ.

It should be reported to the Broadcasting Standards Authority

That ad is almost bad enough to make me change provider just to not be even loosely associated with it :P

Ragnor:
freitasm: Hmmm. If you have 500GB plan you might as well go unlimited, surely?

Telecom have a poor history with their shaping approach/hardware (lest we forget Big Time and Go Large) so I'll be taking a wait and see approach.

500GB with no obvious/detectable traffic management in peak time > unlimited with noticeable traffic management for my purposes.

(and all the other 'Go Large was shoddy' posts - sorry to pick on you Ragnor)

Yes, Go Large was shoddy, but comparing Go Large to Orcon's $99 unlimited, or Slingshot's $99/109 unlimited plans of now is just nuts, Go Large was much cheaper, looking back $50/mo (http://www.scoop.co.nz/stories/SC0609/S00049/xtra-go-large-with-maximum-speeds.htm) I seem to recall as a family we were spending about $60-70/mo for a 350MB/day (10GB/mo) plan with Actrix at the time.  Not only that but any ISP that wanted to was able to offer the Go Large plan run by Telecom (or was that Big Time?).

Can we please leave the 8 year old mistakes of Telecom behind and move on, objectively looking at/reviewing this modern, competitive (in terms of what Orcon/Slingshot advertise) unlimited offering?  Really want to hear some objective reviews in a few weeks of how well the unlimited plan performs.
