Hi there all the way from Napier, the part i live in is 3 yrs away from fb i have just received a telecom pamphlet on vdsl What id like to know is that i see you cant have interleave off for gaming,but does the better quality connect outweigh the xtra ping ?? secondly the vdsl router/modem or whatever are they wireless? or can your old adsl wireless be used with it? need wireless for tv and lappy.

If there anything else youd like to throw in the mix much appreciated phil

The modems are indeed Wireless, 802.11 B/G/N 2.4GHz to be exact. Since VDSL works far differently from ADSL interleaving can't be turned off but that extra 5-10ms ping won't get you killed on online gaming. Do you know how far away from the cabinet you are or able to share an approx address?

To answer you questions: DLM1 is pretty much equivalent to interleaving off ADSL in terms of latency. For example mine is current 5\6ms to most speedtest hosts around Auckland\Wellington. The next set of DLM profiles which use 8ms interleaving profiles won't really add much noticable in terms of latency even when gaming. IMO the increase is throughput is well well worth it even if you're not on DLM1.

Yes most of the VDSL modem\routers supplied by ISP have wireless.

xmanz: i think the cabinet is about 200 mtrs away that would be the cabinet they did for adsl2 by memory.

so do think the actual gaming experience may be better than adsl regardless of ping? many thanx phil

If you're 200m from the cabinet you should be able to get onto DLM1 so about 6-10ms ping average to NZ hosts (perfect for online gaming) - Even if VDSL is on DLM2/3 it's still perfectly fine for online gaming, in fact I'd say it's better due to the increased upload speed.
