It seems Telecom is pushing a changing in branding with the launch of its mobile 4G offering. First were the new colours (as discussed here), then the new "service name" as Telecom Ultra Mobile including a companion website with some giveaways.

The 4G service will be free in some mobile plans and launching on the 12 November.

Hi everyone - it's all go at Telecom this morning. :)

There's a bit of confusion already over the "selected plans" line, and that's being clarified as we speak/type. But the short answer is: 4G will be free to any customer with a 4G-capable phone.

...I realise I've done the introduce-myself-to-Geekzone process backwards, and will head off to the introductions forum after coffee 2.

Behodar:
hamish225: why wont 4G work automaticlly on exiting sim cards?

I don't know the specifics, but I do know that Telecom is working on it and hopes to have it compatible with existing SIMs by about the middle of next year.

This is correct. The existing HLR doesn't support 4G. We have a new HLR that supports 4G and the 4G SIMs are specific to this, as behodar mentioned sometime next year all SIMs will be transferred to the new HLR and then you won't need a new SIM card. Naturally most people don't need (or care about) this information so 4G Sims are optimized for 4G is the answer you will usually get. Had to get some clarification on that one :P
