I switched from Orcon wholesale to Telecom VDSL Ultra last month (location Beach Haven, about 2km from the exchange and 400m from the cabinet).  The changeover was 3 weeks ago.  I already had a master splitter and have been running my ADSL on a dedicated cat 5 line for years so internal wiring isn't a problem.

ADSL speeds have been 13-14 MBit down and 1 up since we changed to wholesale after cabinetisation, although there have been slow spots of about 6-7 (remember when that was fantastically fast?).

Initial VDSL speeds were 13.7 down and 9.7 up with a latency of around 35, which was ok.  I've left it a few weeks but it has never wavered (points for consistency at least).  At least the latency has dropped down to 5ms which is great.

I logged into the modem and found the following stats:

Bearers generic info DS US
Payload rate [Kbps]: 37522 10351
Attenuation [dB]:       12.4   26.4
Margins [dB]:             12.3   18.4
Output power [dBm]:   13.5   -0.4

Number of bearers: 1
Bearer 0                  DS   US
INP [DMT symbols]:  0.00 0.00
Delay [ms]:             0.00 0.00
Depth []:                1     0.00
R:                          0     0

From my reading on the subject this is now on the optimum DLM profile and I would have expected download speeds of about twice what I'm receiving, if not more.  Is my understanding correct on this and if so, just how long does it take?  Should I be hassling tech support about this yet?

Ryan

Check for an ethernet port locked to 10Mb/s full duplex - looks to be about the speed you are seeing.

For anyone tripping across this thread, I've carried out a failsafe reset of my WR1043ND router running Gargoyle and set it to firstboot. After some farting around getting it configured again I'm all go and now getting full VDSL speeds through from the telecom modem (in this instance 9ms, 35.4 down. 9.3 up)

So all told I'm pretty happy with the change at present and consider this thread closed. My thanks to all those who stepped up with useful suggestions that helped me track down the problem.
