So I have the Skinny SIM powered broadband router for when in Auckland, I put in my Hastings address and it says this area is not available.  So I bring it to Hastings and it works - go figure! So why are they saying it wont work when it will ? Do they not want it in Hastings due to poor infrastructure, load, etc?

This has been answered many times here before. FW broadband will only be offered in areas where there is sufficent cell tower capacity. As RF is a finite resource (in comparison to fibre) performance degrades as more customers are online in a given geographical location. To keep performance good, connections are limited.

You may well be disconnected soon as a result.
