I have been told that I loose coverage because this is a vodafone branded phone and will not pick up the telecom towers. Is there anything that I can do?
The i9000 galaxy S isnt quad band (the S2 aka i9100, is however) so if you are wanting to use a Telecom XT SIM card in it, then you are out of luck.
It *may* work on XT in the main centers, using infill frequencies, but this is unreliable, and not at all recommended.
Not much you can do about it really, stick with Vodafone, or take it to 2degrees. It should work fine with 2d. Try sell/swap it on Trademe for a Telecom compatible one?
The phone MUST support WCDMA or UMTS 850Mhz. Not GSM 850, or WCDMA or UMTS 900Mhz. If it only support 2100Mhz WCDMA/UMTS and not 850Mhz then it's not suitable for XT no matter what people say "ohh it will work in the major cities". Your experience will be sigificantly impacted by only running on 2100Mhz and I have yet to find anyone happy to say that works "well enough" for them.
