I ran out of data on my $19 plan a couple days ago. No big deal I thought, I'll just buy another 500MB for 7 days for $10, like I did in February.

Except.. there is no option to. Anywhere. No more casual data.. no 50MB, no 300MB, no 500MB, nothing. The only way to get extra data (it seems) is to add extra per month. Not only do I not want a recurring data top up, it is terrible value. Another $12 for 150MB.

What gives?

Pretty sure the system is in maintenance mode right now as part of a monthly release.

Try logging into the web client: http://www.telecom.co.nz/ytmobile

Try it again in the morning :)

Actually I had this exact same problem recently.  I whipped through my 500mb with about 10 days to go and the only option was the $12 150mb thing.  I must have had something funny going on because that 150mb was gone within 5 days and I was stuck again.

I ported back to 2degrees and they have great data topup options.

Couple of problems with that link - I am unable to login on my computer or over wifi on my phone. I get error messages and the system maintenance message thrown at me every time. I don't want to disable wifi to do it because something else will automatically use data and I'll be pinged for it. Already wasted $2 inadvertently (yes a tiny amount but a rip off nonetheless).

I tried it several times over about 6 days and there was no option to buy casual data, only recurring data.

Shove your phone into 3G (so turn off WiFi) and head on over to http://m.telecom.co.nz/yt - hit Extras and go add a pack on that way. I'm afraid that since the 500MiB 7 day pack was a Summer special it's now gone, I have no idea if there is anything else in the works but all I can say is watch this space!

I just logged in fine from my PC to telecom.co.nz/ytmobile, and can see 50,150,300,500 and 2GB data options, as well as the packs

This made me notice the $12 text pack now has 50mb of data. i guess its now a bit better, before it was $2 more than 2degrees just for texting to any network.

Are these for prepay only? What about On Account plans? Any way to add more data if all used up before the end of the month?

Yes I would love to know the same, sometimes i need more data but when I log into my account plan I don't have an extras tab to buy more data.

Pay Monthly Boosts and Extras tells me I can add 1GB for $20 but this is monthly. This is the only option offered to my account.

Also interesting the mobile access doesn't offer anything, have to look at the full Telecom site. One would imagine the mobile site should be the one stop for everyone...

You can add a boost onto any one of the new Smartphone / Open Smartphone packs for 1gb / $20 - just involves either ringing up 123 or popping into a store.

Have to say telecom has one of he worse online portals for mobile management compared to vf or 2d. If you're on account then you essentially have different places to view your phone, the other being the your telecom login which prepay users can't access.

Wonder if they have any plans to improve the mobile portals?

Agreed, whenever I have tried to login it has the maintenance page where I can't do anything.. that's if I can log in at all.

The only data extras I have available to me are 50MB, 150MB, 300MB, 500MB, 2GB, all recurring monthly. The 500MB one is $25.

I mean seriously.. my $19 plan comes with 60 minutes, unlimited texts and 500MB, I'm not going to pay $25 for another 500MB. And then have to figure out whether I can cancel it before being needlessly billed again..

Its just silly really. Why no casual data?

i smell a short lived exodus :D

the more people vote with their feet the better the plans get! (i hope telcos won't do limited promos - just let them last long term coz people are just gonna leave!)

You can buy another $19 pack.  =-)  So that is 500MB + 60 minutes for $19 instead of $25 for 500MB
