Hi, my nana seems to be having trouble with her emails. all of a sudden some of the emails shes sending seem to not be sending and come back saying they were undeliverable.

She said she called support and was told to send messages individually instead of to a group but this still didn't fix the problem.

Heres a screenshot of said message with personal info blacked out.

It could depend on if you are using send.xtra.co.nz or smtp.xtra.co.nz as a smtp server.

smtp.xtra.co.nz should deliver it just fine as long as you are within the Telecom network.

If you are using send.xtra.co.nz you need to have authenticated SMTP with your Xtra Yahoo username and password, and in that case I don't think you can forge the "from:"

I take it she is on Telecom broadband?

Or has she moved from Telecom to another ISP but still using her Telecom (xtra) email address?

She needs to setup the send.xtra.co.nz SMTP server on Port 465 (and have it authenticated using her xtra email address and password).

Either use the slingshot SMTP server while she is at your house, or use send.xtra.co.nz with her xtra email address username and password for credentials.

They might have transferred a domain recently and just erased all the data.

Move to New Zealand's best fibre broadband service (affiliate link). Free setup code: R587125ERQ6VE. Note that to use Quic Broadband you must be comfortable with configuring your own router.

but she has an xtra email address, she doesn't have a slingshot account.

That shouldn't matter.

But it would be easier if you changed it to send.xtra.co.nz. Port 465.

Turn on Authentication (use xtra email address and her xtra password as credentials)

Do not tick secure password authentication.

What email client is she using?

There is usually a box somewhere that says 'Server requires Authentication' or similar.

oh i fixed it, just had to go into advanced settings and turn on encryption for the outgoing server instead of both.

i didnt know you could send emails through another companies smtp server without having an email account with them? how do they authenticate you? what's to stop someone from sending spam like that?
