Can't remember if this has been asked before, but was wondering if anyone knows what telecom's door knockers are offering atm, and if this can be requested to sign up for?
We had one knock on our door the other day but i wasn't home to get the full detail from them unfortunately, the person home asked for it to be emailed through but they never did, so im curious as to whats on offer.

A friend is looking at switching ISP atm and is after internet + an international calling plan. Location is Hamilton so has that annoying $10 fee added on too.

Have you checked if your friend can get VDSL? If so, it's the same price as ADSL.

Unfortunately not, sync rate is a tad around 10mbps iirc, not a 10mbps zone I don't think and out of vdsl areas.

So that's pretty much what's being offered?

Don't get me started on Telecom doorknockers.. they are not in my good books.

They've managed to persuade my 91 year old grandma to switch to a new package deal with 80gb of broadband and mysky.

The problem being my gran is legally blind after some medical issues.. She hasn't used her existing broadband for a year because of it, and there is no way she can use the functionality of mysky, because the writing is far too small for her to read. The only thing of benefit to her in the plan is the unlimited nationwide calling.

There should actually be a law against door to door marketers going through retirement villages. *fume*

Pretty sure that isn't Telecom, since they don't sell Mysky.

AFAIK, only Vodafone have a deal to sell MySky, so it can only have been a Vodafone door knocker that sold her that package.

Perhaps the doorknocker implied they were from Telecom when really they were from VF  ("We sell Telecom network wholesale").  That's been know to happen before as the Telecom brand tends to have more credibility with old people.

I must admit, I thought Telecom did have a Sky agreement, but didn't have any retail plans in place currently relating to it. I may well be wrong.

Quite the opposite.

She was a TelstraClear(and then Vodafone) customer for years, and is now a Telecom broadband customer.

I'll have to clarify on the Sky thing, from what she told me her package was 80gb broadband, national calling and mysky for $85 a month, which is why she thinks its a good deal. Telecom's site on the other hand has a package just like that without the Sky for that price..

Even if she's just a confused old woman, and the sky thing is seperate, there is no way in hell she needs an upgrade to 80gb of broadband a month, and we're looping back to dodgy door to door salesman taking advantage of the elderly..

Telecom do not sell MySky.

So either she is somehow mistaken as to what she signed up for (maybe the salesperson said she could keep her mysky if she switched from VF, but she assumed he meant it would be free when all he meant was that you keep it, but carry on paying Sky for it rather than having it bundled onto your VF bill), or the salesperson lied to her even more.

Have you phoned Telecom to complain? I believe you have a 7 (or is it 14?) day cooling off period with door knockers by law, so she should be able to cancel it if it was very recent.  It must have been quite recent as Telecom only put the data plan up to 80GB a few weeks ago. that plan didn't exist before then.

Hi as stated we don't have any deals that include MySky even through door knockers. If you send me the details via PM I can see if someone can followup.

I've recently had a customer tell me the same thing. Apparently two reps approach the customer, one from Telecom and one from Sky to present their options together. I don't know if this is official Telecom / Sky policy or if individual reps decided to team up to be more effective. The case I'm talking about happened in South Auckland.

Also this, I couldn't for the life of me establish how the pricing was being worked out.

I can also confirm with Jaidev that Telecom doesn't sell plans with Sky or MySky anymore.

"As of 16 May 2008, Telecom is no longer selling SKY Digital Start Up." Those that had it can keep using it but there are no new signups.

So I would love to know the exact details on this, feel free to email me pl at telecom.co.nz with all the details and I can follow up. But it does sound a lot more like a Vodafone signup as they are (from my understanding) the only company that partner and re-sell sky (either via their Cable T-Box or MySky discount)

Peter, I may have time to pop in and see my Gran on Saturday, and if so will ask her then about the Sky link, but its 100% definite she has been switched to Telecom (My dad came and picked me up to help setup the new modem)

Sorry gents, in the end I didn't end up having time to visit my Gran until yesterday.

She said that the sky and telecom upgrades were done around the same time but unrelated (which just goes to show you she has her moments of senility because that's not what she had previously indicated to me or my parents)

She's accepted that she doesn't really need the 80gb broadband package, and was going to ring Telecom to see if she can downgrade it this week.

She doesn't really even need the bottom end Telecom plan to be honest thou (or mysky).

She's so blind that even thou she has a 50" LCD, she sits in a chair directly in front of it (as in her knees touch the front panel), and still needs to lean forwards and use a magnifying glass to read the mysky guide text. You can just imagine how well she does with checking her emails (even on a large screen and with magnifier enabled).
