HIYA
Am looking at the Ultra VDSL on offer for Telecom ( TG589vn)

HOWEVER.. the Modem on offer is an old one and is discontinued...?? Technicolour do not even show it on their website.

For instance there is no MAC filtering option on the router software.

The GUI seems from accounts to be limiting? Not sure yet what that means as I have not used it yet. I like to edit the GUI to suit my needs. For instance all our devices on our home network have fixed addresses. Not sure if I can do that in the TG589vn

being as there are some issues with the settings on the modem AND there not being any Gigabit ports... I am wondering if we go for the deal, if we can "revert back"

If we went for the free option of offer from Telecom, had the wiring and master splitter installed, then found that the lack of gigabit switching on our home networks was an issue, could we then plug our old Netgear router which has 4 gigabit ports, back in?? Would it still work??

Why don't you just get your own decent VDSL router of your own choice?

That is my next port of investigation..

However, having the installation done AND a 12 month contract for free is an attractive offer...

It is a pity that the modem on offer is such a limiting one and form what seems to be discontinued stock?

What model Netgear do you have?

The TG589vn can easily be configured to a preset "Bridge Mode" using its initial setup wizard. You can then connect your Netgear to it provided it can accept PPPoE as WAN (most ADSL2+ modem router devices can only accept WAN from its ADSL port).

It's a free modem designed for your average home user, if you're needing more advanced features then bridge it to your netgear, simple. You don't need gigabit for internet bridging.

Nobody forces you to use an ISP supplied modem.

There are plenty of options in the $300 - $400 range that'll do what you want or for a similar price you can just use the modem as a bridge and use whatever router you want.

Stop being tight.

Spend some money on a router if you want a decent one. Don't expect an ISP to supply a top notch one.

I'm using the N600 - you just need to first disable WiFi on the Telecom router and run the setup wizard to enable bridging, plug it into the N600's WAN port then run the setup wizard on the N600, here's the settings from mine, just set it up with PPPoE and get it to "dial" to the internet using the settings below:
