I did a speedtest today, Im quite impressed with the result, On the Christchurch telecom speedtest server, I was quite close to a tower around 20 meters. This test was conducted at Eastgate Mall in Christchurch

Maybe others would like to post their Skinny Speedtest results?

2.40/0.56/98 ms, Whakatane, iPhone 4S, just now. A far cry from your result!

Downstream may be fine but upstream is very slow!

Sure that's not a Telecom WiFi connection (with ADSL backhaul)?

Big difference between up and downstream connection.

You can see from the phone it's on 3G - obviously to get this speed it'll be on a dual carrier site.

Telecom still has very slow upload speeds on their 3G compared to Vodafone, even on uncongested sites it's rare to see much more than 1 - 1.5Mbps whereas you'll typically see well over double that on Vodafone and 2degrees.

This isn't surprising from an uncongested site - but what is surprising is a mall not having much traffic at 1pm.

Skinny isn't going to be any faster or slower than Telecoms 3G all other conditions being equal. Slow speeds on skinny are down to telecom's network being congested.

The iPhone 4S doesnt support dual carrier, the max speeds are HSDPA, 14.4 Mbps; HSUPA, 5.8 Mbps though

But this is the first time ive had a result like that, I normally get 3 or 8 down but im not always in dual carrier area

Yeah why is that? Does telecom have a speed cap on upload?

Nope, Definitely 3g :)

Thats not too bad, Which device are you using? does it support dual carrier?

Yup although it is not a big mall,

Also you guys check if you were in a dual carrier area: http://www.telecom.co.nz/mobile/mobile/ournetwork/mobilecoveragemaps/
