Hey BigPipe,

I want to clarify few things about VDSL installation.

1. What kind of work do you need to do since master splitter is not required? The house has current naked adsl 2+.

2. No term whatsoever? I can have it for one month and disconnected? What about part month?

1) we don't do any home wiring. we highly recommend you get a splitter, if you don't already have one, or run cat6 from your ETP (since you won't be needing other phone jacks anymore) but that is up to you, coffeebaron does a great job if you are north part of the north island.

2) correct. You can leave at anytime. you pay each month in advance on your billing day, and any money you have already paid is not refundable if you leave. Your billing date is the date you get connected.(or first week in April for those who join before the end of March) So the best time to leave, if you really want to, is the day before your billing day to avoid paying for unused days.
So there is no pro-rating, part month bills, 30 day notice, usage billing, or any of that stuff. Your bill (in the case of vdsl) will always only ever be $99 and never anything different. Price certainty for you, and makes it much easier for us to build our billing systems and remove billing errors.

You could join now, use vdsl until the end of March, and then leave without paying a single cent if you really wanted to.

Correct, although sometimes chorus techs do call round anyway out of courtesy to check it's all working.

Just one more thing. I was reading your FAQ late last night. Apparently BigPipe did not support 2nd line?

Can I keep my existing broadband and just add Bigpipe as a second line?
Afraid not. That's not an option right now. If you want to try Bigpipe you'll have to ditch your current provider. But that's no biggie, with Bigpipe you'll have all the speed and data you could want. You can waive your old provider goodbye.

I assume this should not be an issue to me as I am currently on UFB? The main reason I want to add BigPipe as a second connection is I wanted it to be used solely for HD skype and video streaming (ie netflix hulu amazon etc).

Seems like a serious waste of money! UFB connection will be perfect for streaming.

Also, I would of thought as soon as BigPipe put a VDSL job through to Chorus a site visit will be scheduled as Chorus mandate that a splitter be installed on every VDSL connection? The cost is built in to the rental price so I don't see why you wouldn't.

Don't know for sure, but I seriously doubt chorus will allow a copper line installed when the property already has ufb. In some cases they remove the copper altogether I believe, so there is nothing left to physically connect.

Even if your ufb plan is low GB, the extra $99 per month for big pipe vdsl would more than cover an upgrade to a massive plan whoever you are with.

I'm scratching my head why anybody would consider having a second line vdsl into a property that already had ufb. Maybe if you told us why you wanted it we might be able to suggest alternative solutions?

it simply seems very flawed considering it is baked into the chorus charge, and no matter how you look at it (assuming you dont have a single run from the ETP for ndsl jackpoint) its simply does not float in my books atlest..

i am dreading the next bigpipe thread that pops up with speeds not being where they should, or errors like crazy simply because a splitter (or even a single run to a single jackpoint) is not installed.

ild highly recommend, you do you research, find all the threads, inwhich failure to install a spitter correctly, or at all have killed vdsl lines, and reconsider your take on it. simply because fiber is in the street your on does not mean your not affecting people on the street next to you that happened to miss the fiber rollout.

ild also personally love to see vdsl denied (or any copper product thats not POTS) if you have fiber to your door. i do recall your company in particular having slightly expensive prices though, so i can see the compelling factor to get a second line in.

that has already been covered in the other thread. It is not built into the Chorus charge, It is an extra $5 per month AND requires a 12 month contract (maybe 24 month, I can't remember). Since we don't want to lumber our customers with contracts, this is the only viable option.
Especially so when a lot of our VDSL customers are coming from having VDSL with someone else, so they already have a filter anyway. No point putting another one in.

they can still get a filter installed if they want to (and don't already have one), and we highly recommend it.
coffeebaron covers Tauranga I believe and you know he does a good job at a good price.

I suspect it already is.

It looks to me like with eol.co.nz in Tauranga, you can go from 30GB to 1000GB for $100 more on their 100Mbps plan, which is the same price (well, a dollar more) than the Bigpipe VDSL line would cost.
So really unless you (the OP) are planning on streaming a lot more than 1TB of video (very unlikely) then there seems no reason to want VDSL as a second line if you have UFB as your primary line.

But not normally for residential users like the OP who say they want to use it for video streaming
