A question for someone who has been through it. I have ADSL with Telecom, if I get a Telecom fibre connection, when will my ADSL be disconnected? Trying to plan the install around important events needing internet access and don't want any periods of disconnection
The DSL connection will be disconnected once we receive confirmation that the Fibre install has been completed by the access provider. The access provider should not sign off the install job as being complete until you're up and surfing on the Fibre connection. We have seen the odd case, however, when the job was signed off prematurely.
My views are my own, and may not necessarily represent those of my employer.
And in most cases your DSL and Fibre service should both be up and running while the engineer is onsite, and if you have a static IP you can have your Fibre connection on Dynamic IP, make sure it's browsing correctly, then we update it to the static IP and then unplug the DSL router and plug in the Fibre RGW and you are away. Then the DSL disconnection order gets run.
