On ADSL I had an ASUS N55U, which was fantastic., but no WAN connection in order to connect to the Spark/Chorus ONT interface.

So I purchased the N66U, and thought I could simply copy the relevant setup data across from the Spark Huawei modem (poor wifi range).

Unfortuantely few of the feilds to fill in have the same titles, so appreciate help if anybody else has successfully configured one of these for Spark fibre connection.

Of course Spark's helpdesk is not interested in helping, and ASUS just read from a script and cannot actually interpret the Spark/Huawei data.

cheers

Damn BigHammer, I was just responding to the other thread and now have to type this out again! (sigh)

Anyway, the R66U doesn't support VLAN tagging on its stock firmware meaning you won't get it to work with Spark UFB unless if you flash a third party firmware on it (like Tomato, it is excellent: https://gist.github.com/joshenders/3941269)

Then you can set it up quite easily, here is a thread with screenshots of somebody getting it working: http://www.geekzone.co.nz/forums.asp?forumid=49&topicid=125748

Spark Username / password can be anything (just not blank), leave service name and options blank, go into VLAN settings and tag the WAN interface as VLAN 10.

That's what happens when people post the same topic in multiple threads!

but most of the time people only see one of them so you wil get a few answers in one thread and a few answers in the other.

easier for you to just make one thread in the correct place

I've used the Asus RT-N66U many times over now. I change the firmware to Tomato Toastman version - http://toastmanfirmware.yolasite.com. It opens up a a lot of features, many of which you may not use, but it's always nice to have.

If you're interested in trying, then you want to be using RT-N version, specifically 1.28.0507 VLAN (tomato-K26USB-1.28.0507MIPSR2Toastman-RT-N-VLAN-VPN-NOCAT.trx).

Follow this guide: http://www.shadowandy.net/2012/03/asus-rt-n66u-tomatousb-firmware-flashing-guide.htm. This one uses Tomato Shibby version, which is pretty much the same. I just have a personal preference to Toastman.

And here's the actual settings in the Tomato firmware you need. The rest you can whatever you want - wifi, dhcp, etc...

You need another router. This one won't work IIRC

The DSL-N66U is a VDSL/ADSL modem. I don't know if it can even be made to work with alternative firmware. Something like the RT-AC68U or RT-AC87U should do the job without the need for custom firmware. As mentioned above, you need a router that supports VLAN tagging.
