I just got VDSL installed the other day and have very bad down speeds but not to bad up speeds

Chorus Engineer said it was because I was living in a managed complex ( ex hotel units ) but if that was the case would that also not effect the upload speed. I am using a hg630b Telecom  modem.

Speedtest is meaningless if trying to solve a slow connection.

Please post the DSL modem line stats.

That's rough, but cable conditions are the deciding factor.  I understand that the equipment in the telephone exchange or cabinet negotiates speeds and profiles over the first few days so it may improve a little.

How do the speeds compare with your ADSL if you had that first?

all things are possible when it comes to VDSL issues.

If you haven't already, best bet is to drop our support team a note through our site and they can take a look at your line and see what's what. (make sure you aren't doing speedtests over wifi too - apartment complexes can have a lot of wifi interference which can massively impact the speedtest results)

did the chorus tech install a splitter (since you spoke to him, I assume he came to your property)

do be aware that there is an 'optimisation' process that runs for the first 10 days which will tweak your speed/stability so it may change in the next few days.

It has affected the upload speed imo, upstream tends to degrade less than downstream in most of the VDSL installs I've seen (e.g. even if you only get 30Mbps downstream you may still get the full 10Mbps upstream, just as a 60/10 will). DSL line stats would be interesting- do you have a master filter installed? Did you have ADSL2 previously?

Probably a stub on the line or similar. That absolutly hammers VDSL speeds more than ADSL. Good luck getting chorus out to look at it. If they do come out, both mine and my flatmates experiances of chorus techs for low speeds is that they are rude and dont want to do anything.

I did not have ADSL2 here as I just moved in on Saturday previous place wa 100M fibre which runs past the gate but is not a option due to the property having 12 units which in the past would of been through a PABX so all cabling goes back to a central point in the main house.

here are the modem stats

Must be hard to go backwards in speed...

This may help, purely as a comparison.

Unfortunately that's because with the many things that can cause slow DSL, very few of them are things that the Technicians/Service Companies can actually charge to Chorus anything more than a No Fault Found, which means that essentially if it's going reliably and not dropping the arse out of itself every now and then, it gets very complicated for no gain.

With your modem stats and a bit more information on how your connection is wired (You're in an MDU, so do you know what kind of cable is run between the demarc and your place?), someone might be able to give you a hint as to what to complain about, but otherwise it could be anything anywhere.

Anything I say is the ramblings of an ill informed, opinionated so-and-so, and not representative of any of my past, present or future employers, and is also probably best disregarded.
