Greetings fellow fibre Bigpiper's

I just wanted to get an idea what download speeds everyone else is getting on specifically the 100mb fibre package of BigPipe.

The maximum I have been able to achieve via http, steam etc. is around 7MB/s. I mostly average at around 6MB/s.

I would love to see what everyone else is getting. :)

Really depends exactly what you're testing and where it's located.

I just want a broad average. Not really protocol or location specific.
I am aware these play a strong role in accurate measurement but that's not what I am looking for.

You can not get a meaningful broad average. There are many reasons why. Ask a specific question and I am sure people will help.

100 Mbps = 12.5 MB/s as a theoretical max, so your avg. 6MB/s would seem lower than anticipated. But an average is only good as the services you are including within your selection.

I'm on BigPipe's 200/200 plan and I frequently get 25MB/sec when using a download accelerator/splitter type app. So I expect I'd be getting the full 12.5 MB/sec if I were to downgrade to something as archaic as 100/100.

If you feel you want to be accurate and specific, then post it in the following format :

Fibre connection speed : e.g. 100mb.
Protocol : e.g. http
Location : (only if you feel you need to be this specific, I don't really care)
speed : e.g. 7.2MB/s

All tests were conducted via gigabit Ethernet to a Asus DSL-N55U. I also tried connecting directly to the ONT using PPOE connection.This via a freshly installed line.
I made use of 2 different computers running up to date Windows 8.1.

I seem to be getting between 6MB/s and 7MB/s across most of my download protocols. I have tried a range of different downloads:

Speedtest.net
testmy.net/download
http://mirror.inspire.net.nz/debian-cd/8.1.0/amd64/iso-cd/debian-8.1.0-amd64-netinst.iso
http://zeus.jetstream.co.nz/450M.bin
Steam (games)
Latest linux distro via well seeded torrent
Latest linux distro via astra web (Unlimited)

This all led me to try and explore what other people are getting with the same connection, as several Bigpipe staff tell me, they see the lower figure but they cannot see any solution from their end.

Surely if Windows 8.1 was the problem Microsoft would of by now fixed it with hotfixes as Windows 10 just launched?

It's not the first time I've seen a slow speed problem caused by Windows 8. If you can try Windows 7 that would be very helpful.

With DSL, Chorus has a tool for your ISP to check your line and see what speeds you're syncing with, this makes it easy to diagnose speed problems. With fibre, there's no tools at all and all your ISP can do is to eliminate every possible factor on the customer's side.

obvious question time:

Are you using any VPN, alternate DNS or anything like that?

Also, what happens when you try multiple sources at the same time? do they all ramp up to 6-7MB/s, or does the 'cap' seem to distribute itself out amongst everything.

if you want to be accurate and specific, then the fibre speed should be 100Mbps or 100Mb/s, (with a big M)

Actually, if you want to be realllllly accurate and specific, you should fin out if your ISP/LFC have provisioned you onto a newer plan with the overheads built in so that they are configured for ~107Mbps instead of 100.

What do you get specifically on Speedtest to a local server? Not one more than a city away at most.
My 200/200 connection should finish by the end of tomorrow and will be testing from there. But sounds like you have a 50mbit device bottlenecking your network unless you have specifically tried connecting through ethernet into the router.
