Hi there
First time caller, long time listener and hoping someone can help me out here.
After suffering nearly a year of crap coverage in my house I've saved up and bought the Netgear AC1600 Modem Router to replace the Spark supplied modem. Its created a booming wifi network around the house as per my original intention, however I cant seem to get the damm thing to connect to the ISP.

Im on Spark VDSL, unlimited data connecting over the phone line (not fibre) in Auckland. I keep getting an error message telling me my ISP user name or password is incorrect. Now I thought this was an easy fix but I've talked to the spark call center (in what sounds like India) and looked at their website for 3rd party modem settings. Both sources tell you to enter user@spark.co.nz and password in the respective name and password fields. However this doesnt work. On the off chance Netgear had this as a known issue I've called the Netgear call centre (in what also sounds like India) who couldnt help me either.

The modem gives you ISP options within NZ to select. I've tried selecting the Telecom NZ, SPark and Xtra options, without success.
The modem indicates its receiving a DSL signal so its just the ISP log in thats the issue.
HELP! Any chance anyone has some suggestions for me out there ?

What about setting VLAN 10 option, like it also tells you on the 3rd party modem settings.

PPPoE username and password on Spark can be anything. They use port based authentication so as long as you have something in there (it doesn't matter what) it'll work.

You haven't evteered anything in the service type have you? That's an incredibly common mistake where people simply make something up despite instructions telling you to leave it empty.

Hey thanks very much guys for your help.

After being told by both the Spark and Netgear call centers not to click the VLAN 10 option box in the modem settings, I read your posts and thought I'd give it a go (why not!, I've spent 3 days of trying evrything else :)) & Lo! internet connection successful.

Much appreciated, I was thinking I would have to return my new modem and downgrade.

Regards all :)
