This is kinda amazing.

Switching from 2degrees Gigatown UFB to Bigpipe. Fill out the online form and submit at 5:04 pm today (Saturday). Receive email at 5:14pm with switchover date and router config details.

Un-f*ing believable.

Make sure you read this. Beware you have 30 day notice clause with your current ISP.

If you got a date from BigPipe you may still need to contact 2degrees to arrange the account to be closed - or not. It's not clear if all ISPs receive an automatic notice or if you have to call AFTER you arranged everything with the new ISP.

Either way you might still have to pay the extra month on the old ISP.

Thank you for the heads up regarding the notice period for the old ISP. As an update on the switchover, it was working 15 minutes after the scheduled time. Not bad.

If anyone wants the working config for an Edgerouter Lite, message me.

Yes please would be keen for the config, did you get it with VLAN tagging enabled or disabled (default)?

VLAN tagging off. It did not work with tagging on, their instructions stated:

PPP Protocol: PPPoE
VLAN Tagging: Disable/No/Off
PPP Username/Password: anything, just not blank. For example Bigpipe/Bigpipe
Obtain IP address automatically
Obtain DNS servers automatically
If you need to manually set your DNS servers, our servers are: 203.96.123.1 and 203.96.123.2

Short and sweet.

You can request BigPipe to flick the switch to VLAN tagging if desired. Essentially both are very easy to setup on the Edgerouter since the new wizards have come in (firmware 1.7.0).

I found the same when I joined bigpipe, didn't realise there was an advantage one way or another. Is there a benefit in moving over to VLAN tagged connection?

I also notice that on the 100/20 plan I seem to only get around 80/20 on speedtest. I'm not that bothered by it as its much better than ADSL, but is this just due to congestion at BP end or maybe something more sinister. The equipment at my end is modern so I don't think that's limiting my connection, and I have got 100/50 when I was with other ISPs using the same equipment (different house however).

If you're not sure what VLAN tagging will enable, IMO there's no advantage in it for you. If anything it's a disadvantage, as it'll add a limitation to the types of devices you can connect to the ONT.
Re speeds: Try with your computer connected directly to the ONT, set to connect on PPPoE.

For those that need help with this:

Connect a computer up directly to GE1 on the ONT with an Ethernet cable, and setting the computer to connect on PPPoE with Bigpipe set as the username and password

Page 24. "Specify an Internet Connection That Uses a Login"
Set it to connect on PPPoE
Set the username and password to "Bigpipe"
Leave the service name blank. Set connection mode to always on
Set to automatically obtain DNS and IP address
If you need to set the DNS use 203.96.123.1 and 203.96.123.2
Use default MAC address
Save/Apply, Reboot.
