Hey all,

I got Bigpipe VDSL installed but when I tried to connect with a HG659 it's not working..

I tried resetting the modem, testing with different jackpoint (there is only one that will work in the apartment), and with different cables but the results are still the same (no Internet)

Power light: green solid

WAN light: green solid

Internet light: no light

(Interestingly I tried an ADSL setup and it did make the Internet light blink but still no Internet)

Here is the VDSL setup I have (instruction from Bigpipe)

Here is the ADSL line detected on HG659:

Anyone experienced the same issue? Could it be the line is not correct?

This is exactly the same issue posted in http://www.geekzone.co.nz/forums.asp?forumid=158&topicid=196762 but not sure what made it work..

Cheers.

Probably a good idea to pop that info in an email and send to Bigpipe.... (if you havent already)

With 22dB downstream attenuation on ADSL I wouldn't have high hopes for a good VDSL connection.

EDIT either way this is something only bigpipe can help you resolve. You may have been put on ADSL port temporarily due to port shortage.

Best thing to do would contact our support team here and get them to double check what service you were provisioned to and run through a couple of other steps. There's a small chance it could be that your order has been provisioned incorrectly, or more likely that you've been misjumpered.

If you already have contacted support, feel free to PM me your email address and I'm always happy to have a look.

BigPipe had basically forgotten the order and the ADSL I was seeing was left there from the previous tenants.

If there is still an existing connection I'd actually pick they've started the abandonment process. Until this is complete a new service order can't be lodged on the line so it's not possible for them to lodge the connection. If that is the case I don't think you can lay any blame on Bigpipe other than not communicating the abandonment process.

In my case; the way BigPipe explained it was that there was no active account on the line and it's normal process for Chorus to leave DSL services on the line as opposed to physically disconnecting them after the previous account is moved off (house had been vacant for some weeks before we moved it). They admitted fault on their part.

BP said they have asked Chorus to look at it again by 15 Sep. Fingers crossed.

Got VDSL working this afternoon. Chorus technician came and did something to the apartment switchboard.

All in all it's been quite good experience so far with Bigpipe. The responses from them are usually helpful.

Here are the stats:

Just did a speedtest with speedtest.net (Vodafone NZ node)

Download speed: 20Mbps

Upload speed: 1Mbps

Not great I think but I am happy at least there is Internet...

you should be getting within 1-2mbps of your line speed on a speedtest.

im guessing you tested over wifi?

Please test with the Spark Auckland server if possible for best results.

Given the image says OP is getting roughly ~30Mbps and the speedtest is 20Mbps, I'd definitely say over wifi. The uptime has only been 2 days so let DLM do it's 'magic' and see what it's like after a week.

you really shouldnt be testing over wifi

if you want the most accurate speed test, test via ethernet

your results just prove how bad either your wifi is or the device is
