Hello.

Just trying to improve my experience with SPARK - I have a HG659b Fibre modem. Using Speedtest.net i have VERY FAST speed, but my net experience is not so fast.

Doing a bit of google, I found this page.

https://www.spark.co.nz/help/internet-data/equipment/huawei/hg659-gateway/check-the-fibre-settings-huawei-hg659-hg659b/

Under the part saying - How to check the settings, I have got to Step 6. But i have different values.

Enable connection - TICKED.

Service Type: Internet,TR069 and VOICE are all ticked
Ive got PPP.

but my MRU is only 1492. The Website says to use 1500.

MSS: 0

NAT: NATP

Vlan ticked. (this section is OK)

PPP authentication mode - AUTO (website says PAP)

IP protocol version: IPv4 (not both IPv4 & 6)

I am just wondering - Is there a page to explain what MRU is ?

UPDATE: I checked & my settings were set to VDSL settings- not Fibre.

So i updated MRU to 1500, & enabled both ipv6 & 4.

From my immediate tests Its going a lot faster. Can anyone advise - or provide a website to explain what MRU is, & what happens if you have it set incorrectly ?

I'll test tomorrow, but i guess incorrect MRU makes your surfing go slow ?

Should i also update PPP ?

I'm assuming you mean MTU? There is no way to configure the MRU on a 659b

1492 vs 1500 will make absolutely no difference at all for every day web browsing or downloads. 1500 does mean packets don't need to be fragmented.
