Hi there,

 

Just installed Skinny fibre last week,I use AC87U direct connect to ONT, but still can't use ASUS DDNS features,See following.My question is 1, want through ASUS mobile app remote control the router. 2, want setup VPN Server into ASUS router.thank you.

Skinny use CG-NAT.




Spark Max Fibre using Mikrotik CCR1009-8G-1S-1S+, CRS125-24G-1S, Unifi UAP, U6-Pro, UAP-AC-M-Pro, Apple TV 4K (2022), Apple TV 4K (2017), iPad Air 1st gen, iPad Air 4th gen, iPhone 13, SkyNZ3151 (the white box). If it doesn't move then it's data cabled.

It means Skinny uses a public IP address that is shared by many connections. The IP address you see it's not unique to you. If you need this feature then you need an ISP that does not use CG-NAT.

google CG-NAT

 

basically you share an IP address with many others so any service that requires an IP address to access your LAN will likely not work.

Yes, but the ISP has to offer dynamic that doesn't change frequently (or at least non CG-NAT) or static (which is better because it never changes). Skinny is CG-NAT so won't work.

I believe Slingshot don't use CG-NAT.
Also the dynamic IP address they give out appears to be pretty sticky. I've had the same IP address for at least 3 months.

Actually when direct connect ONT, I've had external IP (100.72.xxx.xxx not 192.168.XXX.XXX)and show can connect ASUS DDNS Server,Mobile App could working via ASUS provide host name under WIFI. But couldn't working via Mobile data.

 

Meanwhile, also had same IP over 2 weeks.
