The new network is certainly on its way. This captured from Cable St in Wellington CBD. Cannot connect to the network however.

Let's make a list here too :-)

The sites in Pukekohe and Glenbrook have been scaffolded, upgraded and un-scaffolded over the past few weeks - no sign of life on my phone yet but a tech I talked to a few weeks ago mentioned the gear hadn't arrived at that stage . . .

went into the Telecom Store in ChCh today, gettng dad a new phone. and talked to the guy who mentioned this article lol. So I had to come and have a look.

He said that there is a test area in Auckland where they are testing everything out and that that was all going fine with not major problems.

It is scheduled to go full scale and be launched in november with 10 cellphones being released with it.

This is all what the Telecom Sales Rep guy told us.

This has now caused dad to not get a new phone till the network has been opened.

There will be minimal coverage compared to the CDMA network initially, apparently only cities will have coverage at launch.

Nationwide GMS EDGE 850 at launch, with WCDMA 2100 HSPA (yes not HSDPA) coverage at launch in Auckland Wellington and Christchurch.

So they will have full coverage around the country with 850mhz at the launch or will I have to be carrying around a second mobile while traveling around initally?

Hopefully some good deals with the launch as I will be looking for a new contract at the time.
Maybe the Nokia N96?

What's the difference between HSDPA and HSPA?

HSPA is whats defined when HSDPA and HSUPA are enabled on the network.

HSDPA being High Speed Download
HSUPA being High Speed Upload.

I wonder if one of those phones starts with "i" - it would seem fortuitous timing.  Wink

I saw the network a while ago from downtown Wellington, but I don't see it anymore.

I'm really excited about the additional GSM network competition within New Zealand.

If he doesn't buy new technology because of what might be available in six months from now, then he would end up never buying anything!

Live for the now!

Like what Vodafone NZ said: "Make the most of it NOW" - no opportunity wasted - How is this motto coming along for Vodafone NZ?
