I noticed last time this happened too.

When switching Fibre providers I get a letter in the post from Spark saying fibre is now available along with their unsolicited offer of joining them.

I thought Spark and Chorus are sopose to be seperate now? I find it crossing the line a bit in regards to privacy - keeping tabs on peoples Internet connectivity status to send them advertising letters.

I could understand some automated letter letting me know fibre is available but to be sent it from a retailer keeping tabs on my connectivity? That I have nothing to do with.

I think it's random, I occasionally get come-to-jesus fibre offers from various ISPs, plus the door knockers. Last door knocker go dressed down by my 12 year old : "do you have gig fibre - no / do you have static IPs / not sure / do you ipv6 / ip what?" :) made me proud

Hey Gavin,

The way this works is simply, Chorus supply all providers a list of addresses that have had Fibre made available.

RSP's then act on that data. in this case, Spark seems to have been the first to the punch.

Thanks for the clarification.

The mail is much slower than the 5 minute transition down time to another ISP it would appear :)

I wonder how many letters like this are sent out to provider swaps - where they aren't relevant or way too late to be useful.
