I have Xtra Broadband on a 10Gb Plan at home.

I cant send emails from Outlook when using my work email address to work from home. Gives error (0x080042109). Cant connect to SMTP server it says.

But the wierd thing is that when my monthly data allowance finishes, and my internet speed drops dowm to dial up, then there;s no issue. I can send emails no problem.

I have had this problem for more than year, and every month this happens. As soon as I finish the 10GB, drops to dial up speed, I can send emails.

Have tried to call Xtra a few times but they say that this is weird and they dont have a solution.

Can anyone assist me in this solving this issue?

Have you registered your work e-mail address as per these instructions?

And moved this to the Telecom forum.

yes..that has been done by xtra..they created a new xtra email addres for me and attached my work email address.

What i cant understand is that why am I not able to send emails when on Broadband? When dial up speed kicks in, the problem goes away.

I would check the list. Don't trust. You would have received an email to click in a link to confirm.

Log into your Yahoo!Xtra account and check that your other e-mail is actually there.

Have you tried a different email client such as Mozilla Thunderbird or Outlook Express?

What smtp server are you using???

Are you using send.xtra.co.nz or smtp.xtra.co.nz???

If your using send.xtra.co.nz, try smtp.xtra.co.nz.

When I signed up with Xtra I was advised to use username@xtra.co.nz as the format for the username for the DSL connection.

The Port 25 unblock however only works if you use username.xadsl@xtra.co.nz

It may be a good idea for you to check this in your modem.

wicked!! Sorted. It was the port 25 issue. When you opt out of port 25, you need to reboot your router!!! I feel a tad dumb!

Thanks everyone!!!
