Just got the OneUI 3.1 update on my Note 20 Ultra from Spark and its asking me to enable smart, rich messaging through the default Samsung SMS app.

Is this RCS? I haven't enabled / accepted it yet as I don't really want Internet based SMS - I just want good ol reliable SMS (always hear people complaining of SMS issues when using / coming from RCS based SMS, whether it be imessage or android based RCS SMS)

Can anyone enlighten me?

Regards,

(see image attached)

It falls back to SMS if there's a problem.

Yes, it's RCS. As above too.

Do you know if it's something you can opt out of? Or is it pushed on you if you accept? Is it a global option you can just turn on and off or does it just try send it over RCS every text you send?

Would prefer to just stick to traditional SMS.

I am using Google Messages and they don't push it. Perhaps Samsung is being a bit more... pushy.
