I want to move from xtra email and take my old emails with me (inbox folders).

Would be great to have my own name e.g. @name.nz but I don't know what I am doing and who to go with.

I have a google account too, but it is nearly full as photos back up there from my Android phone.

I have an old hotmail address that I have not used for years, but it is still there.

Please help, thank you.

I know nothing :-)

Not an answer to the other questions, but if you have nearly filled your google account with photos and you actively use the gmail address, you can always buy more space.

The free account is 15GB in total (made up of whatever you have used in email and google docs, drive or photos).

If you go to the gmail main screen, and scoot down the bottom left at the end of the "Labels" you should see a link:

Click on that and it takes you to a link to upgrade to 100GB storage for $3.49 a month (currently a special at 75 cents a month for the first 3 months).

Looks like you might be able to import all the xtra email into gmail according to google AI.

Dont know what it would look like once imported into gmail.

Maybe someone else has some ideas...

Method 1: Gmail's Import Tool (Easiest for direct move)

This method lets Gmail pull emails directly from your Xtra account if your Xtra settings allow it (check Spark help for POP/IMAP access).

  1. In Gmail: Go to Settings (gear icon) > See all settings > Accounts and Import tab.
  2. Click Import mail and contacts, then Start import.
  3. Enter your Xtra email address and follow prompts, granting permissions.
  4. Gmail will try to fetch your old emails and contacts.

Gmail has tags but not folders and so is more centered around searching.

Outlook (Hotmail address) has classic folders. If you have a paid Office or Microsoft 365 subscription you will already have upgraded storage.  It can also connect to your xtra email and retrieve messages from there which may help with a stepped migration (not saying Gmail doesn't also have this feature but especially if you are using tags for follders you will want to do a one-off import).

You'll need the business editions of either in order to use custom domains. Unless you already have or need a domain for professional purposes I probably wouldn't bother these days due to added cost.
