There's still no word on whether Telecom will range the iPhone on XT, maybe they could just pay an account credit for a term commitment to a plan and sim, and you could just put that towards the upfront cost of an iPhone from overseas or the local Voda store? Would that work?

Oh yeah. Keall is awesome - testing the iPhone on XT with XT down... Can someone suggest to him that he might want to check with Telecom next time if their network is operational...

"incidentally, although we got no XT reception, the iPhone did pick up NZ Comms (aka 2degrees). As ever, our third carrier is lurking."

id laugh if they had 3G turned off, cause if its off on the iphone, the telecom network doesnt appear until you switch 3G back on.

2degress shows with both.

Telecom has no plans to supply the iphone, full details on plan subsidies are currently confidential and will not be released until launch date, 29th May 2009. ps. Launch date is Friday 29th with a lot of stores opening all weekend

In his defence, I wouldn't have expected the network to be down; it's been live for months and is "in production" for roaming.

At the end he tried a second time with a stock iPhone from Vodafone New Zealand. Inserted a XT Network SIM card, changed the APN - and it just worked...

So much...

yep I've been playing around with it at work.... no problems here. NZ new iphone (jailbroken)... good data speed also. But kinda wondering if that is because there are probably hardly anyone on the data network right now?
