Hi, I have an ADSL modem and I was wondering if I need a router to share it? I have a Cisco switch but when I plug my ADSL modem into it via an ethernet cable nothing works when connected to it. The modem works fine if I connect it too my computer via ethernet or USB, and works fine when my wireless access point is plugged into it but I cannot get it to work on my switch.
I tried connecting it to the USB of my computer then going from my NIC to the switch but still, not working.
Any ideas? Or do I have to get a router?

Cheers,

Maks

Its possible you will need to buy a router if you are running two pcs otherwise you will have to reconfigure your modem.

is your cisco a managed switch? if so, you might have the default gateway assigned to your pc ip address. i have plugged a cheap genius unmanaged switch into a d-link adsl modem, with instant success.
it doesn't have a specific upload port does it?
and last, its a patch and not a crossover cable, right?
