Got up this morning and started downloading some stuff from a server in australia, except it was only going 80kb/s. I thought this was strange so i went to speedtest.net and tried a few different servers in Australia

heres what i got:

With all the tests i did, i noticed that at the start it would reach up to 7mbit then just go down to about 700kbit in a few seconds

Here are some national tests:

Another thing: My upload lately doesn't seem to go over 400kbit as you can see in those speedtests, but last month i could easily get at least 600kbit, nothings changed in the wiring in my house and the sync speeds are the same, anyone know why?

Speedtest results don't mean a lot. WHat are your ADSL connection stats from your modem?

Seems your're the same as me. Last test did to Sydney .3 meg. Local 12. Bet if you do test to New York get better result, just seems to be Aussie Iget bad results for. Sometimes brought games on PS3 take hours to download, other times same file size 7 minutes.

New tests, 12 local, 0.3 Sydney and just over 1 meg NY. Couple days ago Sydney just over 4 megs. I rang telecom round Christmas time but got told nothing wrong with my connection. Other people complaing about it as well, but then their ones came right where mines always been erratic to Aussie.

Which plan are you guys on? Fine here on a fixed IP through the Pro plan :)

Adventure if that's 10 gig name. Can't be connection though as always get solid 12 mb/s chch to chch, it's when data leaves the country it goes stupid. Australia is the worst country to connect to, yet it's the closest. At round Christmas time telecom tells me no routing problems with my connection.

Definitely something up with your connection, um maybe ask Telecom to check the line, you are syncing quite low for your db rate, have you tried updating the firmware, to Sydney at the moment I get:

And that is with downloads going in the backgroud

Never been on big time, always same plan. Everything was good until they altered stuff for Tivo (free metering etc for it) and troubles when they were offering unmetetered uploads, been a problem since.

If I ring them up they say nothing wrong, yet there's the results below, if it's my line or modem then why are my Christchurch speeds so good??? Those modems stats were the opening posters, I'm having look now to see if can find mine:

DSL Status:
 UP
 DSL Modulation Mode:
 ADSL2+
 DSL Path Mode:
 INTERLEAVED
 Downstream Rate:
 13454 Kbps
 Upstream Rate:
 854 Kbps
 Downstream Margin:
 13 db
 Upstream Margin:
 12 db
 Downstream Line Attenuation:
 16
 Upstream Line Attenuation:
 6
 Downstream Transmit Power:
 0
 Upstream Transmit Power:
 0

Yet nothing wrong with Perth,

Crazy! Done tests on PS3 as well as computer and get similar results so not computer, and don't see how router can be good to some places and not others.

Im on the 10gb plan same as rugrat, never been on bigtime.

And i know my sync speeds arent up to scratch because i need a central splitter installed ;)

And speeds to Aus seem to be sorta fixed for me, still not as fast as it used to be, but at least decent now.

I just got 10 megs to Sydney, never seen that speed in long time. Fingers crossed someone took a look, not just a one off fluke.

Just online now and my international traffic on Xtra has completely died...called the helpdesk to see if there were any outages. The young lady was very friendly but not overly helpful...and no, no outages she knew of. Powercycled router, no change. Using my Vodem stick to post this.

Anyone else having this issue at the mo? Funnily enough I can't even go to Xtra's website to see if there's anything on their status update page - probably because it's hosted overseas!
