I can see your point, but I highly doubt it.

Although one of my mates does call his Big Time plan his 'personal TiVo'. He's one of the heavy torrenters that make me shudder when I think of unmetered traffic.

Not that anyone who posts this kind of stuff would actually believe me, but.

There is no link, not even a loose association other than the product manager for Tivo sits near me.

Just a request, I am on the 'Pro' Broadband, is it possible to add a feature like they have on Snap Internet which allows one to purchase extra download credit? I remember that when I was getting close to the limit of my plan with Snap I could purchase extra downloads. Could you add that as a feature? it would be great :D

Pro doesn't have a cap, but it's $20/GB after 40GB.  Doozy has already mentioned here on Geekzone recently this will probably be changed to the much more reasonable $2/GB in the future.

What is his definition of future because 'future' so far with telecom as been "when kaiwai is six feet under". All I can say is the lack of any progress is pretty much telling me once I get out on my own I'll avoid Telecom like the plague.

Telecom, if you're listening, you inaction is pretty much re-enforcing a perception never to give Telecom a chance. Make a decision, not in 3-6-12-18 months but do it immediately because I'm sick of the charades, dances, spin doctors and excuses.

I've just had a look; good to see it'll be happening in July.

As for those downloading 1TB on the Bigtime plan - that is the reason why we can't have nice things. There is always a group of idiots not content with 50-100GB taking downloading to the logical extreme. Personally I would have loved to see Telecom have a Bigtime plan with a soft cap of 100GB - anyone going over there is given a warning, failure to adjust behaviour results in kicking them off the service altogether.

I know when I used the Bigtime plan I used it but I never got into the 100s of gigabytes that some did. I swear some people just download stuff for the sake of downloading it - with no intention of ever actually using what they've downloaded.

If big time - as it is/was - had a 100GB soft cap, there's no way I'd still be on it. The QoS was far too poor to make it worth suffering that much for a measly 100GB (I'd be on Slingshot, Xnet, or Orcon if that were the case)

The 100GB soft cap would come without the traffic shaping - so you wouldn't have the QOS issues in the first place. Telecom just didn't try hard enough, if they really put their minds together the above would have provided 99% of customers with what the wanted and the 1% who abuse the system can go off and play table tennis if they don't like the new arrangement.

So what your inferring is Big Time was withdrawn as Telecom realised Tivo uptake would not take off while people could source digital media 'free' from the interwebs??

I've always thought 'blame the customers' was a bit of a cop out, and I just assumed it was Telecom incompetance. (recent track record speaks for itself).

However, now I'm thinking, surely they cant be that incompetant all the time, and there could possibly be hidden motives behind the BT withdrawal.

So that leaves me stuck between

1. Huge Telco with massive resources cant stay ahead of its userbase in technical cat and mouse game.

or

2. Huge Telco with history of deceit has ulterior motive in withdrawing BT.
