Hi all, first post

Ok so I have Harrier with Telecom and email with Clear. I have the remote email set up with Clear and everything on the Harrier is set up properly, incoming and outgoing servers etc.
The problem is I can only receive emails in australia and not respond to them, very frustrating and Telecom don't seem to be able to help.

Any ideas?

Welcome to Geekzone... Probably the smtp server is configured to prevent relay from networks other than Telstra, Paradise and Xtra (Telecom).

You can try checking the configuration option on the mailbox that requires separate authentication for the smtp server. If this doesn't work then you might have to subscribe to a public smtp server (smtp.com for example).

You can also use the gmail smtp server, if you have a gmail account.

It will depend on what Windows Mobile version the Harrier is running - some have a box to enter separate login credentials for smtp server, older versions have only the checkbox and the login credentials must be the same for both pop3 and smtp server (which means that even if you go the smtp.com way you have to use the same username and password in both your email service and smtp.com service).

It's a common enough problem, and as freitasm mentioned it's smtp related. ISP's won't allow foreign (not connected via themselves) users to send email via their SMTP servers (help cut back on spam amoung other things).

With clear if you get a mail+ account you can send email through them once you authenticate.

Once you get Mail+ enabled (an extra few dollars a month), just set the option 'My outgoing server requires authentication' or something to that effect. Then set it to use the same username & password as you use to recieve email. Then you shouldn't have any problems.

I would try using the xtra mail server smtp.xtra.co.nz
It shouldnt matter that your reply address is at clear (I use the xtra server for ALL my outgoing mail, regardless of the mail provider for incoming).
The xtra mail server is probably configured to allow data roamers in Oz to send mail through it, as I havent seen any instructions to the contrary.

Dont know this for a fact, but its gotta be worth a shot.

Had a clear customer using t-com mobile data in NZ could not recieve pop3 from Clear till they enabled his account to be accessed from off the network, though thats a different kettle of fish.
