Hi there. Currently I am on bigtime but that is closing very shortly.

Anyway I saw just now on the Telecom website they have an offer going where you can (Quote) "Sign up to any home Telecom Broadband plan or Total Home package for a 12 month term before 31 August and we'll double your broadband data for the first 6 months at no extra cost." (Quote)

So, coming from Big time, could I ring them up and say I want to go on "plan-X", get the double data and be with them for another 12 months (Which I would of done anyway on the adventure plan)

I have been with Telecom every since I got Broadband (5+ years idk). So i would just have to agree to another 12 months, and jump from Big Time to Adventure and for the first 6 months I get double data..Yes???

Or am i reading it wrong. lol

Ahh just read Terms and conditions. Turns out its only for new broadband connections.

Sorry for the spam. Can lock the thread if you want.

The Fair Trading Act requires advertising not to be misleading.

There is nothing in the Telecom ad that clearly states you need to be a non-telecom customer to take advantage of this deal. So it is fair, that ion first impression, this deal is open to anyone.

Telecom cannot rely on the small print in the T's and C's to disclose vital information (that the deal only applies to new customers) This is vital consumer decision making information and should be clearly stated in the ad.

That being said Telecom don't give a stuff about existing customers and are well known for breaching consumer laws so don't hold your breath.

this is what i thought. I have just called telecom and ran this idea past them, i was then advised that there was a 30 day wait for reconnection  i asked where this was in writing. does any one know if this is the case as i can't see this 30 wait thing anywhere

Anything I suggest or say is my own thoughts and not provided by anyone else unless stated

Lesson learnt today...

I had 12 days remaining in my calendar month on BigTime. Only to find, I'm on a 20g plan today (yay for TUC telling me 0%)

What I didn't notice, was even though they recommended a larger plan, I had to ASK to goto it by Aug 13 (different per person) to get a $20 discount off the first 3 months (make it same cost). Doh!

We switched over to PRO on the 13th to take advantage of the $20 discount each month for 3 months.

Will re-assess once the 3 months are up, definitely will not stay on the PRO plan as not intending to pay $79.95 per month for only 40GB, and unlikely that 20GB on telecom adventure will be enough to suit our needs.

Hopefully within the next 3 months there will be some good user opinions/reviews of slingshots unlimited plan, and some places available out of the cap of 10000...

Happy to pay $79.95 per month for a reliable unlimited plan... Just hoping that as we took up the 3 month offer of PRO that they wont lock us into another term on our total home package. Read thru all of the fine print on our Big time termination letter and didnt state anywhere that users taking up the discounted PRO offer would not be eligible to disconnect from Telecom at the end of the 3 months..

And that is what is commonly known as "bait advertising" which is also against the Fair Trading Act. If Telecom advertises something it must be able to provide it in a reasonable period of time.

"Reasonable" isn't defined but if they can advise they can cut you off Big Time some time after 13 August and this occurs by 17 August they clearly have the technology to alter plans within a week. So perhaps a week is a reasonable period of time.

Also notice how Telecom don't think they can do Big Time for $59 a month - but they can go "Adventure" with 40gb a month for the same price for six months - and they'll throw in a free modem. They value existing customers so much which "Big Time customers got offered that deal? None!

This then begs the question - is their reason (management of traffic) for terminating Big Time valid. That answer is probably "no" since they are offering 40gb a month I suspect most Big time users would be happy with that allowance. The 100+GB users wouldn't be but Telecom could have come to some other arrangement for those customers if they wanted to put the effort in.

And while I look at the yarns they spin consumers my Buillsh*tometer goes into the red when I see the Chorus ads on TV. Who here has seen two Chorus peoeple in a van - let alone smiling ones!

Give them a call and ask. At home we have been a customer on telecom dsl for 6+ years, and about 2 years ago they decided to double our data from 3gb to 6gb. Strangely it has stood ever since.

$40 for 3gig is a bit of a rip, but for 6gb it becomes quite competitive

See what they can do for you!

Wasn't the doubling from 3 to 6 GB just a resizing of their plans.

Data costs generally decrease over time, (as arguably technology allows bandwidth to double every 18 months) so data plans should increase over time.

You are correct about data cost decreasing, thus allowances increasing.

But on our usage meter it still shows up as '6gb - promo usage' and their website still advertises the plan as having 3gb.

I suppose we cant rely on ISPs do what seems logical!
