Can anyone tell me if my XT handset (Sony E W705) will work on the Optus network in Australia.  They have a good prepay plan that will suit me for a visit there soon and would like to purchase a SIM for the time I am there.

It should work fine, if Optus has GSM service or a 2100 MHz 3G network.

In the major cities you will get GSM or 2100 3G coverage. If you leasve the cities you'll be stuck with GSM only as an XT handset doesn't support their 900mhz 3G network.
