Just bought this Netcomm myzone 3G wifi router today from Telecom. It's very buggy very buggy. Very slow speed, lots of jitter, packet loss, can't make voip calls because of terrible jitter and packet loss. The firmware is older than the Aussie one. Damn it. I don't know I I can return it or not. I don't know if my one is a faulty one or not. And it's nearly impossible to do speed test because of huge packet loss and jitter, I can't believe I bought this thing. I need to smack my own face here. Damn. I changed a few settings but none of them worked.
I don't know if this is a software issue or hardware. I can't find any new firmware on Netcomm website, there is none.
If any of you wanna buy one, you will be warned. The device's build quality is very cheap and bad. Looks good on paper, lol. My novatel MiFi from Vodafone performs much much better. I think I wasted that 300 bucks to buy this Netcomm product. Again.....
Please help me fix this thing. I'm desperate.

I can't seem to find it on the Dynalink/Netcomm NZ website and the Aussie website says there is no firmware update.

Is it possible to find out what the signal is like where you are? does it happen all the time or at specific times during the day?

You might just have a faulty unit.

I bought mine in Australia when they were first released in June and also use it on XT, and it works flawlessly.

I disagree with you about the build quality. I think it looks good and doesn't feel cheap at all.

Try resetting it to the factory defaults and start again.

I have no problem with the signal of XT network, very good here. Ping test result is so bad I can't believe it, packet loss 17%, latency 230, jitter 323, great result. I think it's a faulty unit. I need to get a new one. The firmware is different from the Aussie version. I will try calling Netcomm today if possible and ask them for a new firmware. Or I might just take it to a telecom store and show the staff how bad the speed is. I can't make voip calls, ridiculous, latency is ok, but just too many packet loss during voip calls. I'm not lucky again this time. Speedtest.net result sometimes 0kbps for download, 540kbps for upload, sometimes 5.5mbps for download. Then drops to 123kbps, in the same location, very great signal.

THen I tried using my iPhone 4 to do some speed test in the same location same signal strength. The result was 5.2mbps consistent for download with no lag, upload is 1.2mbps. But I tried on my Netcomm, download speed was 0 but upload was 500k.

After I bought this device, the telecom staff took nearly half a hour to get it to work. It couldn't recognize the sim, it couldn't connect to the internet. Resetting a few times, different sim cards changed, etc.... Then it worked, but....

Ok. Netcomm people called me twice today and told me I can get a replacement at the telecom store. I will go there on Monday and see if I can get a new one.

FYI I got one of these today - it simply doesn't like the V1 sims - i've put a V2 in it and it's fine.

If you've got a V1 sim (eg it's black in colour) you might be best to upgrade if using this device.

I got the refund from telecom today. 300 dollars. I can't trust this device and this brand anymore. I got a brand new sim card from telecom when I bought it. So the sim should have the latest firmware.

What's the max speed you can get out of your myzone?? The highest I got was over 2000kbps, lowest was 0kbps. It was faulty, that's why. My MiFi is still better than this one.

I'm using it now and i've got to say i'm not really impressed with the speed - I was only getting 1mbps, on vodafone i get 3mbps on the mifi.

I'll be doing some testing over the next few days so we'll see how it goes.

After checking the specs it's only HSPA not HSPA+: NetComm 3G Site

So you would only get a max of ~450KB/s which is what I get over my card on XT.  I have a Sierra 880 ($40 ex Tradme) + Netcomm N3G001W ($25 ex Trademe), and the only difference I get between being over wifi and having the card in the pc is slightly less latency which is to be expected over wifi.  If you wanted faster you should have gone for a HSPA+ device.

Maybe you need to re-read the above post - getting 1mbps (circa 100KBps) on the netcomm and the iphone right beside it getting 3mbps (signal strength strong) - both HSPA

I knew from the start the device is not HSPA+ compatible but 3-4mbps should be a realistic speed for this device.

I agree you should get 3-4mbps, I read your post as you were getting 3mb on voda vs 1mb on XT.  my bad, if you can try locking it to 850... Or it just could have a rubbish 3g chipset in it ;)

Ok. Vodafone stopped selling Mifi now cos it's faulty as well. I upgraded its firmware and now it works flawlessly now. But myzone is way too slow, my iPhone 4 XT can get 5.5mbps down very easily in the same place where I tested myzone, but myzone was sometimes dead or sometimes very slow at 0.1mbps, which was very disappointing here. Yes maybe it was the faulty chip. Hspa is fast enough, we don't need Hspa+, It's too fast that 4gb data can't last Long lol.
