Anybody seen the ads on TV? I was just speaking to a mate who missed the whole ad but it was something along the lines of an extra 50% airtime on all plans or something to that effect. Anybody got the full details?

There was a big ad about it in the Sunday Star Times today. Apparently, the catch is that you have to sign up to a 24 month contract.

Hmm.. I wonder why both networks are now suddenly so keen to lock customer into term contracts..

Could they possibly be scared of both competition and possible further regulation? :-)

Woosh plans, Tell me more!!!! any hits even?

I wonder if you can get discounted hardware by signing up for 24 months, Mytime 450 would be nice.

Telecoms plan offer is a good deal, I love these long term offers!

Shame "mytime" users can't also get the same deals though. They are Tier-3 plans and i'm sure if another tier-3 plan comes, you can change (not downgrade)for free. Now let's hope they match Vodafones great 1GB for $49 data offer and allow WAP usage to be taken off  a dataplan!

Jaffa: Woosh are launching new plans due to both telecos providing better cheaper mobile bb. Vodafone announced theirs today. Wait a while and im sure telecom will follow as vodafones is a kickass deal. Cant comment on woosh's or telecoms plans due to NDA's

Aside from WiMAX, I think it would be fair to say that cheap wireless offerings from Vodafone and Telecom are the single biggest threat to Woosh's survival, and Woosh's management must have been planning for some time to face this competition head on. If they can afford to offer sharper pricing then this would be very welcome, but these providers can't afford to compete on price alone, so it will be interesting to see if Woosh manages to pull something out of the bag.

As it is, Vodafone has the advantage of reasonable nationwide coverage relative to Woosh, but Woosh have managed to differentiate themselves thanks to their cheap and cheerful phone service. This differentiation may be sufficient to ensure the survival of Woosh at least in the medium term, but it will be an interesting journey.

I've decided to hand on my Woosh connection (on $5 a month suspend) just a little bit longer and see what's happening. Who knows might me all too good to be true! It's still handy I suppose for network testing.

But at least that 24 month contract does give you either a free handset or a dannn good discount.
Voda's you choose also has a 24 month term remember. seems to be the way they go to avoid churn now.

It could be worse but no contract would be nice.

Especially considering Vodafone were telling us the following a few years ago

"Customers are telling us that they want freedom to move their phone usage where they want, so we're getting rid of fixed term contracts for our consumer users and giving business users the choice."

In my telecommuncations roles, I was surprised at the level of customers taking contracts (typically 99.5% or so of customers I dealt with opting for contracts on fixed line and mobile voice and data services, if a contract was available. In some cases, 12 month contracts yielding a total benefit of $50 to the customer.)

I never got a contract signed without explaining the pros and cons though - people do this willingly.

Strange stuff in my opinion. I guess if you know you will absolutely have that same service for the length of the contract term then it makes sense...

Dont forget that mobile users can 'park' their mobile at any time and pause their service and their contract & fees.

Exactly, At least you can still connect (without the free extra minutes) without signing a contract.

And by signing that contract, you know you have the term of pricing for that deal for that period, just like the Vodafone data 1GB promo, Just like "you choose" and just like most mobile plans around, I know of people on 025 whom still have 6PM offpeak! (contracts signed in 1997)

I personally avoid contracts but that's just me! never been on one (apart from the 12 month gym)

Remember though, SMS is an extra feature so things like $10 TXT do not count for permanent deals.
