I have just noticed the new plans from telecom including various levels of smartphone plans starting at $40 even their new talk and text plans now inlcude data.

Very good move on telecom's part.

Pity I didn't see these yesterday... my usage meters have reset so I can't figure out whether the new options are cheaper or not!

And will be excellent for when iOS 4.3 comes out with the ability to use the iPhone as a Wi-Fi hotspot.

They are "okay" I guess.. If you don't like to use your phone as a calling or texting device...

On telecom you get 100 Min 300 texts and 1024 MB

100MB for $10 isn't that bad.

Would you say that $100 for 1GB isn't that bad either? Because obviously that's what it would be if someone stuck with 2degrees whilst outside their zones.

The Smartphone plans are far better for someone who spends time travelling the country and using data, 2degrees' rates destroy everything if you never leave the main centres. Different strokes for different folks.

This will be operator dependent I suspect... sadly.

NealR please pass on my congratulations to the Marketing team (or whoever comes up with these plans) because I have to say that the plans look pretty good at first glance, and much more balanced than previous offering when aligned to "typical usage" of smartphone users.

You'll recall I criticised the options previously: http://www.geekzone.co.nz/ahmad/7342

But these plans look smart at last.

Bump up the 512Mb to 1Gb on the $40 plan and I'll be all over it once I'm off contract!!!

1Gb would mean that I wouldn't have to be cautious with usage, even though my usage wouldn't actually double.

When Internet Tethering was first announced that was also operator dependent but all three support it.

I personally expect all three to continue to support it.

Too presumptive to go assuming anything. We don't even know if Apple will do an Apple and make the feature available to supporter operators only at the last minute either. As usual with Apple, I'll believe it when I see it.
