I want to really do a total investigation of the Samsun A920. Is there a dedicated samsug forum out there. I really appreciated the advice I get here too..Its just that the Samsung A920 seems like a good buy. But there are a few catches. And I want to investigate them..

All the specs are on the Telecom NZ website what else would you need

It does not clean the house and cook meals if thats what you want to know

Catch is I understand you can't use it as a bluetooth data modem in NZ which if you read overseas forums you'll think you can easily.

IM in Invercargill and have been in contact with the telecom shop. They are getting the drivers and etc and will be giving me a demo soon. So I will keep you posted..

These are some of my questions for them..

Can the Smsung A920's "to do", calandar, notes , voice photos, mp3 all synk to the PC..

IM worrried that the mp3 cant. Telecom says they can. But I want to see this happen as many people tell me you need to load MP3 onto the memory card, then place ther card in the phone to hear MP3's

I want to see what the PC software for this phone can do. I know the firmware problem is fixed. Harvey Norman a920 phones are recalled in Invercargill.

What is the operating system for this phone.

What other types of productive software is there for this phone..

Its $500. And I just want to spend it well.

I don't think you will have any productivity software for this phone. Most phones in the market are not "smart" enough, being "feature phones".

If you need some business stuff then you'd have to look at Palm or Pocket PC devices, but then the prices are way higher than this (except on contracts).

Hello Possum,

the operating system is propriatary Samsung, the Browser is AU Systems- AU MIC 2, the java is MIDP2 with Sprint extentions running on SunKVM 1.1, the screen size is 176 by 220...

Like Mauricio says, it sounds like you're looking for a PDA or Smartphone...

Will check the bt transfer stuff out for ya, but what do you really want to do?

I have an A920 and consider myself a bit of a hax0r g33k

Anyway there is a program on the net called Datapilot that lets you backup/transfer contacts onto the A920 but none of the other features such as calender/todo sync

As for MP3's the easiest thing to do is to pull out the memory card and put it in a reader - there is a program you can use that can access the filesystem of the phone buts its not for noobies and only runs at USB 1 so not reccomeneded.

Another thing to think about is that is uses transflash memeory cards which currently you can only get up to 512mb in NZ - about $80-$90 new

oh and no you cant use the phoen for data services over usb cable of bt in NZ

The New Zealand release of Datapilot currently only supports the Sanyo models listed at http://www.datapilot.co.nz
The US version does support a range of other models, however the firmware on the US vs NZ models varies and the software requires customisation. Hence the NZ version which APT distributes and to date only supports the Sanyos.

I assume it's been modified in some way given your earlier comments? and not an off the shelf installation?

I'd be very surprised if it was working without hacking it up a bit.

Try BitPim open source equivalent of DataPilot... works a treat.

"Phonebook and calendar work on all supported Samsung phones. Wallpaper (and camera) and ringer support is model dependent." Found here on BitPim.org

No specific info on the A920 , but as Filterer said, you need access to the transflash card for the MP3.

No
specific info on the A920 , but as Filterer said, you need access to the transflash card for the MP3.

It doesnt support the A920
