Without breaking the terms of the subscription, can anyone give an indication whether this subscriber only article is indicating a plan we don't already know about, or further details?

Haven't read the online article, but there's an article in the hard copy ("Skinny boss: We will sharpen our act") about how analysts suggest the Skinny plans are weak on text/data. Skinny boss Paul O'Shannessey agrees and says they're "preparing two new plans - one a text pack and the other a 'killer' data deal."

No details, those will come once the website goes live in a few weeks. Don't know if the online article has any more info than that...

I think $4/week for 120mb nationwide 3G data is awesome. That's a killer deal already but can't wait to see what their new one is gonna be like :D

It's pretty decent alright, but the problem is you can only get it in conjunction with the base option, so suddenly you're paying $35 per month. Considering on 2degrees you can get effectively 230MB for $4.60/week, it's not as great as it seems. Admittedly it's not nationwide, but don't they cover 75% of the population now or something?

Anyway, I don't think the $4+$4 skinny deal directly competes with the new $19 data combo on 2degrees just yet (it's almost twice the cost for a start) so I'd be interested to see what they come up with...

I guess they probably will make the $4 data pack a standalone pack rather than an addon

Heh, I am sure that someone said something similar back in the days when people wanted cheaper Broadband data!

and back then, they were probably right.

Maybe once LTE gets rolled out you might get that sort of pricing (maybe!) but for now nobody is going to make money selling data at that sort of price.

It was $10 for 512MB – and that is only when you already have an on account mobile with them (i.e. you are spending probably a lot more than $20 already on calling etc)

Extended expiry is also quite significant.

Telcos make money on plan because they work on the (correct) assumption that people will on average only use a certain percentage of their allocation. The higher the percentage that gets used, the more it costs the Telco. Giving a 3 month expiry means that the % used will be significantly higher than on a one month expiry – and so the cost to provide that plan will also be significantly higher.

Yah I understand what you are saying and that makes sense. It's a shame that the model is based on selling someone something they won't use, therefore not really providing the value.. However, not much I can personally do about it. I can still wish for something better. In reality I prob only want 512MB a month, and I prob could make use of the $10 plan, I just want a longer expiry.
