We would need 4 cores, 16 GB RAM, 160GB storage and ten times more traffic than that.

But yes, would still be more expensive in the cloud.

You'd need more than 200GB out and 50GB in for web traffic each month? I included 500GB glacier and glacier traffic for backups. Just curious really, since you're not considering it (as you shouldn't).

See my previous post - 200GB web traffic only then backup, email.

Traffic is cheap on AWS. I included another 0.5TB in the backup system (glacier). Doesn't matter it was just out of interest.

I am thinking of having a U.Stream going on while I work on the server so you folks can see the DC from inside too...

Thanks.

I have changed my flight date and hotel stay to a day after. But the plan is to get ILO working and the OS installed, move the VMs across and restart everything on Saturday 28th. Since we have two boxes the plan is to only have downtime for the move across seeing all the other activities can be done beforehand. I am thinking about 180 minutes downtime at this point.

Are you retiring the old box or keeping it? You could set up a cluster which will reduce downtime in the future. If that increases colo costs you could potentially do a two VM cluster on the same hardware.

If you can't make use of LiveMigration, you could make use of something like ShadowProtect HeadStart Restore?

The old box is running Server 2008 so no live migration and no Shadow Protect. The new one will be running Server 2012.

One of the mods asked for the old box and since it is now completely depreciated he will have it.

The two VMs cluster is an idea seeing the new box has more memory than the old one.

Well not the DC itself but at least myself. If it is possible, otherwise just a chat page. Haven't sorted everything out yet as there is a lot to plan.

Do you have a pic of the old server?

Hope the transition goes well for you. We all appreciate the work you put into this place.

Predicted view from headcam: Insert media. Coffee. Restart. Service config. Service failure. Coffee, google, restart. Service failure. Possible nsfw swearing. Possible provider calling. Coffee, google, restart, dinner. Beer. Watching server stats. Minor hiccup. Tweaking. Sleep.
