Hey, thats a photoshop. That looks like an IBM XT or some such from the 80s, so that screen is a monochrome screen and not colour.

Why don't we just make the IRL at Datacom? We could all have a few beers and help with the migration... What could go wrong?

I cant remember the DC Procedures and I cant be assed remoting in to Work to look at documentation.


Pretty sure when I did the induction they said no cameras without prior authorization. 

On a different note I have a tape library and new server to install there in the next week or two....you think if I get it dropped off you could get it racked and going for me ;-)

Are you allowed to do that? Orbit, and more generally, Datacom DC's are pretty tight on security. If you can get that to fly, that'd be pretty cool though. I was there a couple of weeks ago, cool place! (unless in the hot isles... dun dun chh!)

We have now confirmed the server has arrived in Auckland and it's shipped to Datacom Orbit. We have arranged for this work to be carried out Friday (hardware installation) and Saturday (software install and VM migrations).

out of curiosity how is your memory usage?  you say you're upgrading to 32gb of ram with your new box and that you're old server had less.. and iw ould have guessed that your old g5s had 32gb of ram, and that you'd be going to 48gb when using virtualisation.

but i suppose it's just one site and it'd probably be fine with 16gb of ram total and no virtualisation.

i was also surprised how low your bandwidth usage is.  i would have expected more like 1000gb/month.  but i suppose it's mostly text, and cloudflare caches quite a bit.  any idea how much cloudflare is pushing?

i imagine Mauricio needs Virtualisation to run multiple machines on the same tin, I don't think he can get away without using virt.

Our current server is running 24GB RAM, with two VMs. We are going to 32GB because HP didn't want to have a "strange" number there (our G5 memory was originally 16GB and I added 8GB).

The VMs are mainly DB/IIS plus monitoring.

Cloudflare is saving us about 2/3 on images. Text is not cached anywhere, is always fresh.

Yes, we do cache those on Cloudflare.

Forgot to mention the main Geekzone VM is currently running on 12GB RAM, plus a second 4GB RAM VM for monitoring (SQL Sentry and SQL Monitor) and SSTP VPN server.
