Good Morning

ive been following a few topics now where some of the posters don't respond for 12-24 hours then when they do come back and respond they quote one post, then a second, then a third etc and you end up with 3-5 posts from the same person in a row

http://www.geekzone.co.nz/forums.asp?forumid=48&topicid=154324&page_no=5#1162614 for example

i just find it makes a thread longer and more messy

having a multi quote button would allow users the ability to select multiple posts they wish to quote. when they have finished selected they could either hit quote on the last quoted post or hit compose new reply and all the quoted material would show up so they could compose their replies.

failing that you could make it so that if they make a post within say 30 minutes of their last post and no one has posted after their last post it automatically adds it to the bottom of their last post.

i dont know if its possible but just spinning ideas

Jason

I agree it does.

I don't think it would work. Some people would not even realise these checkboxes to select multiple posts are there and the "multiple quotes in multiple replies" would continue to happen.

Jase2985: failing that you could make it so that if they make a post within say 30 minutes of their last post and no one has posted after their last post it automatically adds it to the bottom of their last post.

This wouldn't work because in those 30 minutes a lot of people would have read the last reply and moved on. If something is added to that reply it's no longer "NEW" for those people and they wouldn't even look at the old reply before going to the next one - in the assumption they already

PhantomNVD: Lol, couldn't quote OP but this is the best idea IMHO, plus a quote button on the OP's post! :)

We used to have a QUOTE button the OP and then some people instead of just writing their reply in the reply box IMMEDIATELY BELOW IT would hit the QUOTE button and have the entire OP repeated in the first reply. If you think multiple quotes is messy, having someone quoting the OP and the first reply and then someone quoting this reply immediately after makes things a lot worse.

At the end I removed the QUOTE button from the OP. It will come automatically back after there are a few replies or the thread has more than one page.
