It would be helpful to allow search to order by posting date. eg, I just searched for a recent thread but it comes up with listings from years ago at the front of the list.

Actually, I've never liked google search in other sites either , such as JB Hifi. Simply because they do not allow date selection/ordering. It is easier just to use the real google search.

In the site search you can use the "daterange" modifier. Google allows search by dates using Julian Date. For example "freeview daterange:2456413-2456444" in the search box will return posts from May 1st 2013 to June 1st 2013 only.

Alternatively you can use Google to search for something on site:geekzone.co.nz and then click [Search Tools] to add a date range:

Geekzone is well indexed on Google and search will show last date, number of replies, number of people involved in the topic and more information if available.

Julian date modifiers? Not exactly user friendly.

I will continue to use the external google search but it would be nice if GZ had it's own search engine.

Not easy to implement a meaningful search engine on free text databases. Leave Google to do it.

I too aren't a fan of Google based searches within sites, but I'd rather time not be spent on developing a new search engine and spent instead on changing the 'reset read flags' functionality to include a manual only option ;-)

I was going to complain the same thing but the thread suggestion pointed to this

anyway searching for anything is nearly impossible for my poor memory unless you type the exact words of the post you get results from 10 years ago that aren't even close ...

i'll use the tips here and see if I can be more successful next time :D
