I messed up and changed the default application on .vcf file and now I don't know what it is supposed to be. I was able to tap on a .vcf attachment in an email and have that vcard automatically loaded into my contacts, but now it doesn't do that anymore. What do I need to do to restore this function.

Thanks
Larry

Larry, try saving the .vcf to a temporary folder or your desktop. Right-click it and select Properties. You shoud have a lie indicating "Opens with:", and a button Change. Click the button and select the application from the list.

I figured out how to change the application (either your way or using Pocket Tweak). I just don't know what application to choose. Any ideas?

Perhaps I should have mentioned that this is for an Ipaq 4350 running Pocket PC 2003. Sorry about that!

Ah, it's on the Pocket PC?

What do you have in the key hklm\software\Microsoft\Obex\Services\{00000....000}\MimeTypes\ text/x-vCard ?

I accidently changed the application for .vcf. I made it open notepad for a while so I could look at the vcard. Now I've changed it to be nothing and the icons show up as "unknown" and I can't do squat with the .vcf files anymore. All I want is to put it back as it was when I started to mess around.

I don't have a registry editor right now so I can't check for your specific question.

Ok, I've looked up the registry entry:

Mime Types - text/v-card

DLL pimutil.dll
Extension vcf
Name vcard

Does this help?

Thanks

Ok, so this is correct. You can download a free program called PocketTweak. Install it and you'll have a new icon in the Settings, System tab.

Tap on it to start, and there's a tab called File Types. Change to this tab and check these:

vcf: poutlook.exe -f %1
vcs: poutlook.exe -f %1
