This has probably come up before, but is it possible to get the contents of a private message displayed in the notification email, along with the link to message - instead of just the link to the message?  Quite often I'm too busy to check the message straight away but it always nags at the back of my mind until I finally get to a browser to check what it's about.

That would be cool.

I'll bet it's also very hard to achieve.

I wouldn't hold my breath on this feature.

The problem with sending the message in the notification is the chance some email platforms to flag it as spam... Other than this it is not hard.

As for "reply to email"... I tested a few options and the biggest problem would be people replying with HTML instead of just plain text. Parsing it would be a pain.

its doable, just setup a mailbox have a service check said mailbox.  look for an identifier in the email.   just need to run some spam checks against it.

sure i dont see my suggestion being added any time soon, but its doable and maybe one day :)

as long as people know how to reply, (i.e no bbcode or anything), then you could just strip out all the html tags and do a quick convert to plaintext.  theres libararies to convert html to plaintext too.

Realistically if this is going to happen, it probably has happened already given the standard content of the GZ notification email (with all it's links etc in the body text), so the contents of the actual message are probably no more likely to result in the email being treated as spam.

I agree with others here, that the generic notification emails are frustrating.  On other forums I'm a member of, the notification of a new post on a followed thread (for example) contains the post before last and then the new one, to put the details in context.  Notifications of private mail include the message, with a link back to the PM mail account page if you want to reply (ie replies aren't automated via en email reply).

A forum I'm a member of stopped sending PM contents in email as they got spammers sending links, if it's a PM they can delete it before most people read it, if it's in an email there's nothing they can do.

I'd like to see this too as it means I won't have to wait to see the message until the next time I have sufficient time to browse through all unread posts since my last visit.  If I duck in quickly to read the PM then either I have to scan through all new posts or I lose the new post indicator next to them on my subsequent visit.
